FREE Registration is now open for families and businesses to participate in the annual Griswold Challenge, a holiday decorating contest December 3rd-5th in Downtown Sparks.
39 North Downtown has teamed up with One Nevada Credit Union to present the 11th Annual Griswold Challenge, a People’s Choice contest for the best holiday light displays and decorations at 39 North Pole Village. Participants are encouraged to build creative light displays that use as many holiday decorations and Christmas lights as possible! Themes can be based on holiday movies, business concepts or inspired by your family traditions.
The Griswold Challenge inspired by Clark Griswold from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation movie is a unique contest because local families, friends, and businesses form teams to compete against each other for the best light display. Each team receives a 10x20 space to decorate with power access. The Griswold Challenge is a People’s Choice contest where event attendees pick the winners. The first-place winner will take home the Clark Griswold award and $750, while second place will take home the Cousin Eddie award and $250 . Registration to compete is open until November 29. Great for team building or creating family memories!

HAWK FIRE EVACUATION RATE

To our Northern Nevada community: If you or someone you know has been impacted by the Hawk Fire, we want to help provide a safe place to rest.

PLEASE NOTE: We are completely sold out tonight (Saturday), but we are sharing this now so you can secure a room for tomorrow if needed.

We are offering a $49/night rate with NO resort fees for stays starting tomorrow, Sunday, August 23 through Tuesday, August 25.

The City of Sparks will close off several roads:
Hot August Nights road closures will happen Sunday, August 2 at 12:15 a.m. through Monday, August 10 at 6:00 a.m. include:
* Victorian Avenue from Pyramid Highway to Victorian Plaza Circle (west side).
* Victorian Plaza Circle (east) from the alleyway to Nugget Avenue.
* Avenue of the Oaks in front of the Galaxy Theater, one block east and one block west.
* 10th Street south from the alleyway to Victorian Avenue.
* Victorian Plaza Circle east at Nugget Avenue will be gated with security – this is the entrance/exit for registered participants for Show and Shine only.
Note: the listed road closures will remain in place for the Nugget Event Center Shinedown concert taking place August 9.
Opening weekend:
Drag Races at the Nugget Casino Resort Friday, July 31 and Saturday August 1, 6:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.

Cruise Information:
Downtown Sparks spectator and participate cruise and road closure information from August 5 to August 8 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.:
* Eastbound and westbound Pyramid Way off-ramps will be closed.
* Pyramid Way will be closed from Prater Way to I-80.
* Pyramid Way on-ramps will be open for northbound traffic from Nugget Avenue.
* Eastbound Rock on-ramp will be closed to alleviate Pyramid Way eastbound closure complications.
* Vehicles are asked to enter the cruise at 21st Street and Victorian Avenue as side streets will be closed to registered cars entering during the cruise events.
Parking locations:
* The Nugget Casino Resort parking garage
* City of Sparks free public parking garage next to the Galaxy Theatre.
Drivers may enter from Victorian Plaza Circle or from 12th Street.
Bottom floor of the Deco Parking Garage on Avenue of the Oaks.
Enter from 10th Street on the west side of the building.
Transportation:
* The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County will provide free transportation on its RAPID Virginia and Lincoln Lines, Route 1, and Route 11, transit services starting Tuesday, August 4 through Sunday, August 9, all day, each day in partnership with Hot August Nights. All routes serve RTC 4TH STREET STATION and RTC CENTENNIAL PLAZA.
* RTC’s RAPID Lincoln Line and Route 11 service runs from downtown Reno to downtown Sparks on 4th Street and Prater Way.

This Saturday, June 27, the City of Sparks invites the community to Celebrate Sparks! — a free, family-friendly celebration and mural unveiling to honor the history, culture, and community spirit of Sparks," a City of Sparks message with this visual indicates.
"As part of the America 250 initiative, this event will include the big reveal of the artwork by Ely-based artist Jamie Vincek in the Tony Armstrong Amphitheater, a talk from the artist, live music in the amphitheater, food trucks and Great Basin b**r, local vendors, and free historical tours provided by the Sparks Heritage Museum.
Celebrate Sparks! is an official America250 Nevada event designed to educate, engage, and celebrate the state’s contributions to the American story. The City of Sparks is a partner in the statewide semi-quincentennial celebration.
