IDA is reminding travelers to check their bags before heading to the airport as fi****ms are on pace to break records in 2026.

As passenger traffic continues to increase, we encourage travelers to take a few minutes to double-check your bags and ensure any firearm is unloaded, properly secured and packed in checked baggage.

When a firearm is detected during the screening process, local law enforcement is notified and screening pauses while the issue is addressed by law enforcement. Depending on the circumstances, travelers may face criminal citations, civil penalties, delays, missed flights or additional screening requirements.

Passengers may travel with fi****ms only in checked baggage and must follow specific requirements. Fi****ms and ammunition must be declared to the airline, packed correctly and follow all necessary regulations when traveling. Passengers should check with their airline for specific information when traveling with fi****ms.

After more than 28 years of dedicated service with the City of Idaho Falls Police Department—and the past three years serving our airport community—we recently said farewell to Sergeant Deede.

Airport police officers play a vital role in ensuring the safety, security, and smooth operation of our terminal each day. From assisting passengers to responding to emergencies and working alongside TSA and airport staff, their presence helps create a safe and welcoming environment for all who travel through IDA.

To recognize his service, Sergeant Deede was honored with a traditional water salute as he made his final drive through the airport—a meaningful sendoff for someone who has given so much to our community.

We are grateful for his years of service and will truly miss his presence at the airport. We wish him all the best in his well-earned retirement.

An update about our TSA team here at IDA!

The government shutdown continues, but an emergency order has put TSA personnel back on paid status. As of Monday, March 30, we can no longer accept gift cards or food donations for them.

To our incredible IDA family and community—thank you for showing up when it mattered most. Your kindness, generosity, and support have been a blessing to our TSA team and their families. From gift cards to kind words, you’ve made a real difference. Your compassion doesn’t go unnoticed and is what makes this community so special. Thank you 💙✈️

Exciting news for IDA! 🛫

The City of Idaho Falls has secured $12 million in federal funding to support the Idaho Falls Regional Airport terminal expansion, included in the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2026 at the request of Congressman Mike Simpson.

This funding supports the first phase of a multi-phase project to improve safety, efficiency, and capacity at the airport. Current improvements include:

• Expanded baggage screening area
• Safer loading areas for baggage carts
• Additional ticket counters and queueing space
• Structural modifications to allow for future growth

This investment allows the airport to address some of the most pressing space and operational challenges inside the terminal. It improves safety and efficiency today while positioning the airport to adapt to growth anticipated in the future.

The full terminal expansion is estimated at $60 million and will be funded through federal aviation grants, passenger facility charges, and airport revenue sources. Construction is expected to take about 27 months, pending final design.

Construction at the Idaho Falls Regional Airport is moving in every direction, on the surface and upward!

Recent months have focused on looping utilities around the building, adding a new powerhouse, and installing conduit and equipment to support the increased power needed for future expansion. These behind-the-scenes improvements are critical to meeting the growing needs of our region and positioning the airport for what’s next.

A Little Bit of Magic at IDA 🦷✈️

Every day at the Idaho Falls Regional Airport, our team works to reunite passengers with their lost belongings. Most of the time, it’s a straightforward process of getting laptops, keys, phones, or wallets back to their owners. But recently, we encountered a story that was a little more special.

When we found a young traveler’s coat with his tooth still inside, we knew we had to help. Our team coordinated a "special delivery" from the Airport Tooth Fairy to make sure the coat, and the tooth made it home!

While not every Lost & Found request turns out quite like this, we were so happy to go the extra mile to keep the magic alive for one of our smallest pilots. It’s all part of the job here at IDA!

Lost something IDA? We are here to help. If you’ve lost an item at the Idaho Falls Regional Airport, please visit our website at www.iflyida.com for more information.
