Experiential tourism. Educational tourism. Volunteer tourism. Creative tourism. For some of us, traveling with purpose is more gratifying than sightseeing alone.
I built Wandering Writers Workshops as a traveling creative school for writers and the “writer curious.” We immerse ourselves in a place through its landscapes, histories, cultures, and everyday life, letting what we encounter shape our questions and our writing. As an anthropologist, I set the stage with a contextual lecture.
Then I turn it over to local guides who deepen our understanding through thoughtful and accessible excursions, and the experienced educators who help us turn curiosity into creative practice.
That purpose also includes reciprocity: supporting local businesses, valuing local knowledge, and finding meaningful ways to give back to the communities that welcome us.
I’m calling it Analog Tourism. Time to put down our screens, pay attention, create, and connect.
Grounding, in every sense.
