Zimbabwe’s industrialisation agenda depends on stronger linkages between local production, supply chains, and procurement systems. In this context, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, in collaboration with the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI), convened a Policy & Regulatory Consultative Meeting on Local Content Development and Implementation.

The engagement brought together industry leaders, manufacturers, retailers, suppliers, researchers, and policymakers to review proposed local content thresholds across sectors, including oilseeds, textiles and clothing, soaps and detergents, dairy, leather, iron and steel, and wood and furniture.

Discussions focused on strengthening domestic value chains, improving industrial competitiveness, reducing import dependence, and supporting local production capacity.

A key theme throughout the discussions was the need for stronger coordination between policy, procurement, industry, and investment frameworks to support sustainable industrial growth and greater local value addition.

Sectors covered:

• Oilseeds
• Textiles and Clothing
• Soaps and Detergents
• Dairy
• Leather
• Iron and Steel
• Wood and Furniture

Yesterday, CZI hosted a workshop in partnership with UNDP Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Investment Development Agency, and CrossBoundary, focused on unlocking impact investment opportunities in Zimbabwe.

The session brought together a curated group of Zimbabwean companies to explore how they can access alternative sources of capital beyond traditional banking—particularly from development finance institutions (DFIs), private equity and debt funds, and impact investors.

Discussions highlighted the evolving investment outlook for Zimbabwe, what investors are looking for, and how businesses can position themselves to attract capital. A key focus was on strengthening investment readiness, including governance, financial transparency, and the ability to demonstrate measurable impact.

Key takeaways:

– Zimbabwe is at an inflection point, with growing interest from international investors and renewed engagement from Development Finance Institutions (DFIs)
– Access to capital requires more than strong financials; investors are placing greater emphasis on ESG standards, governance structures, and clear impact measurement
– A strong and credible impact narrative is becoming a key differentiator in unlocking capital and strengthening investor confidence
– Many companies remain underserved due to the limited deal flow of investment-ready opportunities, highlighting the need for structured preparation and documentation
– The Impact Investment Map initiative is focused on bridging this gap by building a pipeline of bankable opportunities and improving visibility to global investors.

The workshop forms part of a broader effort to position Zimbabwe as an attractive destination for international investment while supporting companies to become investment-ready and scale sustainably.

Last week, businesses, community representatives, city authorities, and academic institutions in Mutare gathered to discuss a growing environmental concern, the pollution of the Sakubva River and the broader sustainability of the city’s waterways. The dialogue was convened through CZI to encourage collaboration between industry, communities, and public authorities on sustainable water management and river protection.

River systems are central to healthy ecosystems, food systems, and urban life. When they become polluted, the effects ripple through communities, agriculture, and local economies. Protecting urban rivers is a shared responsibility and a critical step toward building resilient and sustainable cities.

The dialogue focused on practical pathways toward more sustainable water management, including:

- Strengthening wastewater infrastructure and upgrading aging sewer systems.
- Improving monitoring and compliance for industrial effluent discharge.
- Promoting responsible waste management across households, institutions, and businesses.
- Encouraging collaborative investment in river monitoring and rehabilitation.
