There was a time when getting to Zambia felt like an adventure in itself. Long road trips and complex logistics – the kind of journey that tested your patience before the safari even began.

But now, Zambia is quietly stepping into one of the most exciting roles in African travel, not just as a destination, but as the connector that makes multi-country Southern African journeys genuinely seamless. Improved regional infrastructure, renewed investment in transport links, and a growing network of air connections are turning Zambia into the natural centrepiece of a broader continental itinerary.

Victoria Falls into the Okavango Delta. The Zambian safari circuit paired with Namibia's desert wilderness. East Africa flowing naturally into Southern Africa. The pieces are fitting together in ways that simply weren't possible before.

Zambia has always been on the radar for South African travellers, but it's becoming more reachable and more central to the kind of layered, multi-destination travel that more of us are looking for.

Proflight Zambia's expanding network (direct flights from Johannesburg and Cape Town, with new routes to Windhoek and Maun) puts you at the centre of it all.

Today is International Biodiversity Day, and Zambia has more reason than most destinations to mark it.

Nearly 40% of Zambia's land is formally protected. That's 20 national parks, nearly 40 game management areas, and more than 480 forest reserves safeguarding one of Africa's most extraordinary concentrations of wildlife and wild places.

The numbers are staggering: over 750 bird species, 220 mammals, and over 3,500 wild flowering plants. More than 300 species found nowhere else on earth. And waterways (the Zambezi, Lake Tanganyika, Lake Bangweulu) that sustain aquatic ecosystems of global significance, including over 300 fish species in Lake Tanganyika alone, more than half of them endemic.

This is a destination that has genuinely committed to protecting its wildlife, and that commitment is visible in every game drive and every morning you wake up to sounds that remind you the world is still wild.

Proflight Zambia flies you directly from Johannesburg and Cape Town into the heart of it.

Africa is home to 54 countries, yet it has fewer flights connecting its nations to each other than you would find linking just 5 countries in Europe.

That gap has a real cost. It slows down business travel, limits tourism and makes trade harder than it needs to be. Better intra-African connectivity is one of the most straightforward ways to unlock economic growth across the continent.

Proflight Zambia is doing its part in Southern Africa, with scheduled flights connecting Zambia to South Africa, Namibia and Botswana.

89% of Millennial and Gen Z travellers say trying local food is one of the most important parts of any trip, according to American Express’s 2026 Global Travel Trends Report.

Zambia has been ready for that conversation for a while.

The African food story begins from the moment you board a Proflight Zambia flight. Locally sourced snacks, freshly roasted Kasama coffee, and an in-flight menu built around Zambian and South African produce.

And that’s just the flight.

On the ground, Zambia’s food culture is as rich and varied as its landscapes, from grilled bream served with nshima on the banks of the Zambezi to fresh produce markets in Lusaka that will make you rethink everything you thought you knew about African cuisine.

The snackpacking starts at 30,000 feet. Book at flyzambia.com

Zambia has always had the best of Mother Nature, from wildlife diversity to the incredible Victoria Falls. That part was never in question.

What’s changing – and changing fast – is everything around the country’s nature-based offering.

Zambia is in the middle of a confident, deliberate evolution as a travel destination. The government is actively investing in tourism infrastructure, and private sector partnerships are expanding hospitality offerings and accessibility across the country. Furthermore, a growing commitment to round-the-clock tourism operations means that the experience of travelling in Zambia is becoming more seamless and attuned to what modern travellers expect.

For South African travellers who have been curious about Zambia but wondered whether the destination could match the experience they’re used to, the answer is increasingly, and emphatically, yes.

Proflight Zambia's expanding network, with direct flights from Johannesburg and Cape Town, and new direct routes to Windhoek and Maun, means there has never been a better time to explore beyond your borders and see for yourself.

As a Zambian resident holding a green or pink NRC, you can book Firecracker Fares on the Lusaka – Mfuwe and Lusaka – Livingstone routes earlier than the standard advance purchase window. And if you’re not a Zambian resident but are travelling with one, you’re covered too. That means more time to plan, and more chances to lock in a great price before they’re gone.

Book up to 45 days in advance on Lusaka – Mfuwe and up to 60 days in advance on Lusaka – Livingstone, giving you more flexibility to plan ahead at a great price. It’s our way of making travel a little more accessible for those who call Zambia home and those lucky enough to be exploring it with them.
