What a pride of lions early in the morning, just after the gates opened. 27 lions in total! What a way to start the day in the bush.

Today we had lunch at the train restaurant in . Every few seconds I would hear a train blowing its steam whistle, but I just could not figure out where it was coming from.

Then Prinsloo Mlambo came to clean the table, and as he walked away… he made the sound himself!
I jumped up and said, “This is awesome! Can I record you?” 😂🚂

For many of us, our first safari was from a sofa. Childhood eyes learning to love something we had never seen, in places we had never been. The wild was no longer far away, it was right there in our homes.

At the heart of this was David Attenborough. He didn’t just bring nature closer. He shaped how we see it. And more importantly, how we value it. Because of him, entire generations didn’t just grow up watching wildlife, they grew up caring about what happens if it disappears.

For many of us working at Wilderness, that spark led somewhere real. From television screens to open vehicles, from childhood fascination to working with wildlife or young communities through CITW. Today, his legacy lives in the choices we make, the journeys we take, and the responsibility we carry to safeguard what remains.

And today, as he turns 100, we thank him and celebrate a life that continues to inspire.
