The start of the rental season.

What grand weather we’ve been having since Spring has been in the air. For us at Simon’s Town Cycles it’s always the arrival on the first tourists that are like blossoms on the trees. A honeymoon couple for the UK wanting to explore the Cape Point on bicycles and couple from Germany saving a fortune in Uber fees by taking a scooter for five days.

A shout out to Kino Yves as his visit to the Cape Peninsula debuted on his YouTube channel this week. He did it all, the penguins, the beaches, Cape Point, and at one stage says, "Welcome to paradise."

This is a special shout out to Tyron who serviced the trike. It was in our shop for two days as Tyron carefully disassembled it, cleaning every part as he worked. Checking and greasing every bearing as it was reassembled, the wheels were trued and finally it was time for a test ride and final adjustments.

Swimming with penguins

Lala Babayeva is 27 years old and is all the way from Azerbaijan. She is fluent in Azerbaijani, Turkish, Russian, Hebrew, and speaks perfect English. She is brave enough to travel alone and came to Simon’s Town to fulfil a dream of swimming with the penguins.

We got her kitted out with a rucksack for her swimming gear, the smallest bike we have, and pointed her in the direction of Seaforth.
It was mission accomplished when she returned; she had also fallen in love with Simon’s Town.

It’s almost always couples who rent our bikes. It’s the way they look at each other that gives them away. It’s always a pleasure dealing with them because love always makes people nice.

Ruth with her new bike.

We buy and sell used bikes and Ruth found her new machine in our shop. She is starting her preparations for the Cycle Tour and bought an entry before she had a bike. It was love at first sight and the test ride proved the Merida 8 speed fitted her like a glove.

If you have an old bike that you no longer ride, we would love to find it a new home.

A colourful couple on a grey morning and five gold stars

It was such a pleasure meeting Mariano and his partner. He is from Italy; she is from Denmark, and they live in the Netherlands. They are in South Africa to attend a wedding and still need to travel all the way to Johannesburg for that.

The cooler air and light drizzle didn’t put them off at all as they set off. Later that evening my mobile phone vibrates with a distinct chime, an email from Google notifying me that Mariano had left us a five-star review.
