With the next couple of days bringing a cold front, nothing is nicer than sitting close to a fire or having a lovely Sunday braai with the family.

Our charcoal loads are loaded in bulk, then we separate the fines from the actual charcoal. This is just another way to increase product quality. We deliver our charcoal from Namibia all the way you in South Africa and is available from our warehouse near Randfontein.

Our wood is specially dried out and packaged using the finest wood from kameeldoring trees. It will suit any occasion where you need a long-lasting fire. Our wood and charcoal will never disappoint.

Anyone can order anytime during our business hours and we will deliver as soon as possible (minimum quantities apply), even though, as soon as possible is always quicker than you might think.

It all looks the same, but the truth is chop is quite different from wheaten bran.

So what is the difference between the two?

Chop is cattle feed that is comprised of chopped grain, corn, oats or barley that was harvested. When grain, corn, oats or barley are at the hard doughy stage, they are harvested in the fields and then are stored until the time came to chop some up for cattle.

Wheat bran is a by-product of the dry milling of common wheat into flour. It is one of the major agri-industrial by-products used in animal feeding and is thus quite popular amongst farmers. It consists of the outer layers combined with small amounts of starchy endosperm of the wheat kernel.

Feeding your lambs the right food from a very young age is crucial to their development.

When mutton becomes scarce, the prices will go up, and this is when it becomes profitable to round off lambs in a feeding pen. Often it is necessary to round off animals in a feeding pen when grazing is scarce and lambs cannot reach a desired slaughter weight in the open plain.

Often it is found that if you are weaning many lambs, it is necessary to round some of them off in a feeding pen. Lambs weaned early can go into the feeding pen at eight weeks, the younger the lambs, the better the feed conversion rate.

At Appelcryn logistics we offer a rounding feed that will keep your lambs growing and fat until they are the right weight to be slaughtered. Lambs must weigh at least 15 kg before they are placed in the feeding pen. Feed conversion decreases as a lamb becomes older and heavier, because more fat than meat is deposited in the body.

We know exactly what to feed those little white balls of wool to make them big and strong.

The ideal marketing age depends on the breed. For example, South African Mutton Merino lambs are usually marketed at around 40 kg, where Dorper lambs are marketed slightly earlier – at about 38kg – because the carcasses become too fat at a higher weight.

When put in a feeding pen, lambs must be given time to adapt to their new environment. This should take about two weeks. High-quality roughage must always be available to reduce digestive problems.
