Fleetwatch

Fleetwatch Launched in 1994, FleetWatch has, over the years, grown into one of the most respected trucking magazines in the market winning over 60 awards since inception.

FleetWatch was launched in 1993 initially as a fleet risk management journal, and has since evolved into a trucking magazine covering all aspects of the trucking industry with the primary focus on the “issues” facing modern day truckers. The magazine operates under a banner of independent and objective journalism while striving to elevate the trucking industry onto a platform of high priority with

in the context of the South African economy. We regard ourselves as partners in the industry rather than just mere reporters on the business of trucking. Our prime readership target is aimed at management operating in all areas of transport - ‘professional haulage’ for reward as well as ancillary operators who run transport as part of their overall operations. Many companies have followed the modern trend of outsourcing their transport and the suppliers of such services are also addressed as our target audience. We also get to product suppliers and service providers. The latest Audit Bureau of Circulation figures (January - June 2009) certifies our current distribution at 5 050 copies per month. FleetWatch was voted by the Specialist Press Association as South Africa’s Best Transport magazine six years in a row - 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998 & 1999. The magazine has won 60 awards for publishing and journalistic excellence since its launch in 1993 - the most ever won by any magazine in the history of MPASA. (Magazine Publishers Association of South Africa). To get in touch with us, please make use of the FEEDBACK form posted on our site or call us on +27 11 794 2490 – we’d love to hear from you! In the meantime, we leave you with the highest Irish wish: “May the wind be always at your back”. Keep on Trucking,

A GIANT HAS FALLEN
By Patrick O’Leary
June 3rd: The news came through early yesterday morning that Derick Reinhardt, founder of Reinhardt Transport, passed away peacefully on June 1st. It hit like a gut-punch. I remember spending wonderful times with this great man watching him take the company from a one-truck show to a giant in the trucking industry. And the great thing about Derick was - he never lost his humble grounding. He stayed a ‘mench’ - a ‘boykie’ who treated everyone with respect and kindness. As his company grew, so too did his stature in the trucking industry but never - and I mean never - did he let his status go to his head. Never, ever, did he forget his roots. He was a stunning transporter, an entrepreneur, a visionary. But more than that, he was a gentleman. I recall a supplier once saying to me about him: “Look, Derick wants a good deal but never at our expense. It’s always a win-win deal with him.” I could go on and on. There is saying: “I like to leave people a little richer in spirit for knowing me.” Derick, you have left us all millionaires in spirit for knowing you. May you Rest-In-Peace you great man. From all of us at FleetWatch, we extend our sincere condolences to the family, to his friends and to his colleagues at the Reinhardt Transport Group. Attached is a fitting tribute from the Reinhardt Transport Management Team. Also attached are some memory pics of past good times. Those were the days my friend. It was fun. Catch ya later.

MOTHERS ARE LIKE TRUCKS - THEY ALWAYS THERE FOR YOU
May 10th: Like trucks, Mothers are everywhere keeping the wheels of our lives rolling. Often taken for granted, they receive little thanks for the amazing things they do - always there, always willing and always going the extra mile to ensure everything we need is there when we need it - the food when we’re hungry, the medicines when we’re ill. Mothers - like trucks - will operate late at night when everyone else is sleeping to ensure we get through another day safely, comfortably and cared for. And just like the trucking industry, Mothers carry enormous loads. They manage pressures, schedules, emotions, crises and responsibilities that many never fully see or appreciate. Yet somehow, they keep moving forward with strength and love. Today we salute all mothers, especially those within the trucking and logistics industry - the drivers, administrators, warehouse staff, managers, business owners and emergency services, who balance demanding careers with the equally important role of raising and caring for families. Thank you for keeping families together, businesses moving and society functioning.

To all mothers from all of us at FleetWatch - Happy Mother’s Day. Your love keeps the world rolling. The photograph of the flower attached to this message is taken from our garden - a garden nurtured by the Mother of my children. If it had been a garden nurtured by me, it probably would have been a picture of a w**d. Thanks for the beauty you put in our lives Mother of my Children.

URGENT ALERT FOR TRUCKERS ON N3
Wednesday April 29th -10.45pm: Avoid the N3 near Heidelburg. Trucks are being burnt and shooting has been reported. About 15 kms on Johannesburg side of Heidelburg towards Vosloorus. Authorities have arrived on the scene and fire department is attempting to douse the flames from the trucks. POPs is also on the way. AVOID THE AREA. No further details available at this stage. Dammit. With the economy at a low, diesel at a high, margins as thin as a rake, this is not what transporters need at this stage. And nor do truck drivers whose safety is paramount. DAMMIT!
