Before corrugated board is converted into finished packaging, it is tested to ensure it meets the required performance standards.

At West Rand Box, we test:

✔ Board GSM – Measures the weight of the board
✔ Board Thickness (Caliper) – Verifies board consistency
✔ Edge Crush Test (ECT) – Measures the compressive strength of the board edge
✔ Box Compression Test (BCT) – Evaluates the stacking strength of the finished box

These tests help us maintain consistent quality, improve packaging performance, and ensure our boxes can withstand the demands of storage, handling, transport, and distribution.

📦 Corrugated Packaging Explained: The Manufacturing Stages That Matter

Most businesses use corrugated packaging every day — but very few understand what actually goes into manufacturing a high-quality corrugated box.

At West Rand Box, every box goes through 5 critical manufacturing stages before it reaches our customers.

🔹 Stage 1: Corrugation
The foundation of every box. Paper is transformed into corrugated board using E-Flute, B-Flute, C-Flute, single-wall and double-wall board specifications.

🔹 Stage 2: Flexographic Printing & Slotting
Branding, scoring and slotting are completed to create accurate layouts and strong structural performance.

🔹 Stage 3: Die Cutting
Custom packaging solutions such as trays, pizza boxes, retail-ready packaging and self-locking cartons are created.

🔹 Stage 4: Folding & Gluing
Flat blanks are folded and glued into finished corrugated boxes ready for use.

🔹 Stage 5: Quality Control & Dispatch
Every box is inspected for consistency, strength and quality before dispatch.
