Another successful project delivered by ISS Global Forwarding South Africa.

Earlier this month, our project team coordinated the transportation and rigging for abnormal cargo destined for a mine in Africa on an ANTONOV 124 plane charter. ✈️

Our team was present to ensure that the loading of the two 5.77m wide pieces went smoothly. We coordinated all of the arrangements from transportation, police escorts, and specialized handling/rigging equipment in the airport to ensure a successful operation for all involved.

We love seeing how these projects come together thanks to our teams' meticulous planning and hard work. We pride ourselves on the highest standard of service for all projects, from pick up to final delivery.

This September marks 3 years since ISS- Global Forwarding's incorporation. Since 2018 ISS-GF has opened its doors in 34 countries.

The team came together and engaged in festivities nationally. Thank you to our Durban, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town & Johannesburg offices for donning orange in celebration for Orange Day!

ISS-GF South Africa wishing you a Happy Spring Day!

Along with sunshine and warmer weather comes the fantastic fruit and vegetables that grow across the country in Spring. 🍊🍑🥑

The fruit season in South Africa runs from October to September, and the beginning of Spring brings the end of the citrus, and a new cycle starts. During this time of the year, there is still particular citrus fruit exported from the North of South Africa and the Eastern Cape and Western Cape, namely easy peelers, oranges, mandarins, and grapefruit.

A highlight of this citrus season was the MV Cool Eagle seen in May this year in Durban. This specialized re**er vessel was brought in due to the challenges experienced with 40’Reefer equipment availability. The MV Cool Eagle is the world’s largest refrigerated cargo ship and exports record-breaking volumes as the fruit are not containerized but instead transported in insulated holds.

Our team successfully coordinated the lashing of transformers onto a 20’FR for a mine in West Africa. ⛏

Newsflash: Typhoon "In-fa" to make landfall in China over the Weekend.

"Forecasters monitoring In-fa said the tropical system had winds equivalent to Category 2 hurricane (sustained winds of 96-109 mph or 154-176 km/h) on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale on Thursday.

The typhoon is expected to move slowly but methodically to the northwest for much of the week and ultimately impact portions of Japan’s Ryukyu Islands, Taiwan and China. While areas hard-hit by flooding rain in parts of central China may be spared the heaviest downpours from In-fa, there may still be some tropical downpours that move into these same areas early next week as well."

Please note that terminal and ports at Shanghai, Ningbo and the Yangtze River Delta have prepared for Typhoon level III to make landfall over the weekend.

The storm has impacted port operations and vessels have been told to avoid the area, while others are sheltered at port or anchored outside of risk areas.

We are monitoring the situation and will notify our clients of any delays in schedules, as the forecast becomes more certain.

The typhoon was the equivalent of a Category 2 storm on the Saffir-Simpson scale, and the third to reach typhoon force. And it was only one of three threats AccuWeather meteorologists were monitoring in the basin.

Newsflash: Transnet Systems Offline.

Update: 28.07.2021
We have received communication from Transnet that they have declared Force Majeure for terminals in ports of Durban, Ngqura, Port Elizabeth, and Cape Town.

We are waiting for further updates, and we will keep you posted as the situation develops.

Update: 23.07.2021
See below communication from Transnet:
"We have activated our business continuity plans in order to contain any adverse impact on operations.

We are working to reduce the downtimes to ensure that the systems are up and running again as soon as possible.

All operations will continue, using manual systems. We plead for your patience and understanding in this regard."

Please note we have received multiple communications that Transnet has been hit by a Cyber Attack and all their systems are currently offline. The attack on the port operating system is Transnet-wide and the group IT is addressing the situation.

Unfortunately due to this, the port operations have been halted until the situation is resolved.

We are in constant communication with the port authority and SAAFF and will update you once the issue has been resolved.

Transnet Port Terminals website is down after it has allegedly been hacked. Reports from insiders who cannot be named because they are not allowed to speak to the media suggest that the cyber attack hit Transnet-wide. Happy Mandela Day, South Africa.

Even though this past week was a challenging week for South Africa, we South Africans showed that we stand together and support one another in trying times.

We encourage everyone to continue supporting their local communities, especially Today on Mandela Day.

ISS-GF South Africa is supporting a local charity called Ladles of Love for Mandela Day. Ladles of Love runs a soup kitchen with a mission to tackle the current food crisis facing millions of South Africans every day.

Ladles of Love will be attempting the Guinness World Record for the longest line of food cans, stretching over 6.7km. The aim is to raise 90 000 + cans to donate to those in need while raising awareness of the hunger crisis in South Africa. 🥫🥫🥫🥫

Newsflash: National Protest Action

As you may be aware there is ongoing protest action surging in KZN & Gauteng. The civil unrest has led to delays in freight services across the country and constricted movement of vehicles, especially the N3 between Durban & Johannesburg which is completely closed. Many depots have decided to close their doors till further notice to ensure the safety of their staff and cargo. Some areas are now closed which makes collection & delivery of cargo near impossible.

We are closely monitoring the situation and will be keeping you updated as the situation develops.

Our controllers will be contacting you for affected shipments. If you have cargo due at the terminal and have any concerns, please feel free to contact us for more info.
