Woke up to a hot cup of tea and a misty morning in the Drakensberg.
After the punishing heat in Botswana it was so refreshing to feel cool and we slept so well. It felt quite strange to put on a warm t-shirt and actually snuggle under the duvet we had carted unused with us for 3 weeks

We were on our way to Villiers for our last night, when Jeff had the idea of going home via the Drakensberg (I never question his creative genius)
He had seen this place on the worldwide interweb for years and led the last few in our expedition here. Our friend decided to push on another 4 hours for home - and look what he missed!
What a quirky, arty place! And apparently they hold the Smoking Dragon Music Festival over 3 days at New Year. It's huge. Who knew!

ADVENTURE OF A LIFETIME
We have come to the end of an amazing holiday 🌍 ✨
It started at Big Fig, our rendezvous point on 27 September, where apart from 2 cousins from 🇿🇦 and 🇺🇸, most of us met as strangers or friends of friends.
Today, 21 days later, we said our farewells as forever friends with a few tears.
We have each other's numbers and a whatsapp group FULL of everyone's photos - memories we can reminisce about forever.
Could not have asked for 11 more incredible people to travel with.

Thank you Jeff for creating the perfect itinerary and choosing the most awe-inspiring places to stay. And Debs for bringing her intrepid US contingent of adventurers.

LAST DAY IN ZAMBIA 🇿🇲

Early morning in the campsite before everyone stirs. Listening to the birds and sounds of Africa. There's a lovely cool breeze as we are on the lake, but this will give way to another super-hot day.

Yesterday we went to the neighbouring Lodge and found a fabulous pool. This must have been a incredible place in its heyday, but quiet now. We contacted them for reservations several times over the last year but they don't respond to emails.
The bar was open so
quite a treat to swim for hours on very hot day, with few Mosi beers
The last night, we tasted deep fried Kapenta. Chibila Camp staff specially made some for us. The tiny little locally caught fish were delicious!
