Interface Agreements are not paperwork. They are safety controls.

Where railway operations interface, risk increases. Without clear accountability, those interfaces become failure points.

Today, the Railway Safety Regulator delivered Interface Agreement Management Training aligned to RSR Standard 00-2-6-1 (2024), capacitating 122 stakeholders on mandatory requirements under the Railway Safety Act, 2024 (Act No. 30 of 2024). The focus was uncompromising:

- Define roles.

- Remove ambiguity.

- Strengthen control at every operational interface.

Clarity at interfaces is what prevents incidents.

The Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) continues to strengthen its oversight of critical rail infrastructure to ensure safe and reliable operations across the network.

Led by RSR CEO Brian Monakali, the RSR team conducted a safety oversight visit at Transnet Rail Infrastructure Manager (TRIM) operations, with a focused review of the signalling system along the Coal Heavy Haul Line. The engagement brought together a multidisciplinary team from TRIM, reinforcing the importance of collaboration in advancing rail safety.

The oversight centred on the progress of the Phase 1 Re-signalling Programme, which is advancing well on the Coal Line, as well as key safety priorities for heavy haul operations. This work directly supports TRIM’s roadmap to transition towards a fully digital signalling system across the entire Coal Line, marking a significant step forward in modernising South Africa’s rail infrastructure.

The RSR remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring safe railway operations through proactive oversight, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Let's journey together in building a safer, more resilient rail infrastructure network for the country.
