⚓ Two heavy lifts. Two unavailable crane options. One coordinated response.

A vessel calling at Durban needed to discharge 98-tonne and 88-tonne pieces. With the floating crane out of commission and C berth unavailable, the usual lifting options could not be used.

🏗️ BLS Portco worked with the crane company, stevedores and crane operators to arrange two 550-tonne capacity shore cranes and plan the lifts with safety at the centre of every step.

The 98-tonne piece was discharged using both cranes in tandem. For the 88-tonne piece, the team first repositioned it closer to the hatch coaming with both cranes, then completed the discharge with one. Our agent remained on board throughout the operation.

The plan avoided a potential wait for the floating crane or a diversion to Richards Bay, saving the client time and associated costs.
