Hiring in FMCG?
Let’s stop chasing unicorns.🦄
Can we avoid “unicorns” and “rockstars” in our job ads?
Saying someone’s a ‘rockstar’ or needs to ‘wear many hats” can be seen as vague and off-putting.
Instead, let’s tell candidates exactly what they’ll do.
📌Be specific about the work. -
Instead of “wear many hats,”
say: “You’ll do colleague training (60%), support retailer onboarding (30%), and manage inventory analysis (10%).”
📌Help people picture themselves doing it - Swap “team player” for something like: “You’ll sync weekly with marketing, finance, and supply chain, owning campaign coordination across teams.”
📌Show what makes your team stand out - Rather than “results-driven,” say: “We’re 20% ahead of market growth this quarter, help us keep that going.”
📌Avoid excluding language - Ditch terms like “digital native” or “young”, inclusive wording brings in a broader, stronger talent pool.
💥Clear, relatable, real. That’s what gets the right people to hit apply.
