DJ PROFILE: BONGANI NXUMALO

Bongani Nxumalo is a professional South African radio and television broadcaster. Nxumalo was born in June 1970 making him 56 years old.

Bongani NX as he is popularly known spent years working as an MC and singing at weddings before getting his big break in the industry in the 90's when he joined the cast of The Lion King.

He rose to prominence when he was a traffic presenter on "Rude Awekening" with Jeremy Mansfield on 94.7 Highveld Stereo. In 2008 he scored a television gig on SABC2 cooking competition show "The Perfect Sishebo Show" and in 2013 he joined SABC station Radio 2000 as a traffic presenter on The Drive Time Experience with Ernest Pillay before sealing his own weekend show "The Talking Drum".

In 2019 Bongani left the station and focused on other personal endeavours. He became a full time musician, master of ceremonies and a restauranteur.

In 2023, a tragic strike of the Nxumalo family. Bongani lost his eyesight and he was unable to work in the broadcasting industry or to perform. After a successful surgery which took a strain on their finances, in 2024 Bongani regained his eyesight and saw his wife again after a long time.

Bongani Nxumalo is now performing, running his restaurant business and his NPO Sizani Project helping and uplifting communities. He also has the podcast "Uncle Bongs Podcast"
