Protecting Our Coastlines, One Clean-Up at a Time

In support of National Marine Month, our teams in Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, partnering with a few of our clients, rolled up their sleeves and headed to the coastline last week for a series of beach clean-ups aimed at protecting our oceans and coastal ecosystems.

The impact of litter on marine environments is significant. According to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), more than 11 million tonnes of plastic enter our oceans every year, threatening marine life, damaging ecosystems, and disrupting the delicate balance of our coastal environments.

While a beach clean-up may seem like a small action, it plays an important role in preventing waste from breaking down into microplastics, reducing the risk of harm to marine animals through ingestion or entanglement, and helping to preserve healthier habitats for the species that depend on them.

We're incredibly proud of our Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth teams for giving their time and energy to help keep our shores clean and beautiful. Together, we're doing our part to protect the oceans that connect our communities, support biodiversity, and sustain life.

What started as a clean-up around the Benoni Lake area became so much more than picking up litter. In partnership with Clean Projects, Metro Minds and some of our valued clients, our team rolled up their sleeves to help restore a space that many in the community enjoy and cherish.

The experience was both eye-opening and rewarding. Seeing first-hand the impact that waste has on our environment reminds us that small actions, when taken together, can create meaningful change. As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability and our green initiatives, this is just the beginning.

In recognition of National Marine Month, we're proud to play our part in protecting our waterways and ecosystems, because what ends up on our streets and in our lakes often finds its way to our oceans.

This initiative won't stop in Benoni. Over the coming month, our branches across the country will be taking part in similar clean-up projects as we continue working towards a cleaner, greener future for the communities we serve.
