Standing on the edge of the Drakensberg, watching the Tugela Falls plunge into the valley below, is one of those moments that stays with you forever. After the climb up the famous chain ladders, our Sunway group was rewarded with incredible views, mountain air, and the thrill of standing at the top of one of the world’s highest waterfalls.

Adventure, perspective, and a reminder of just how wild and beautiful Southern Africa can be.

Rest well. A true adventurer and friend to many. You are missed.

Sunway Safaris have lost a close member of our family. We wanted to let everyone who has met or known Wynand of this terrible loss. Wynand was the head of operations at Sunway and has walked a long adventurous road with the company. His contributions were plentiful, but it is his warm, giving nature and love for Africa that will be missed most.

Our thoughts are with his family during this time.

If you have any memories you want to share, please do so in the comments.

As the heat of the day fades, we glide silently through the winding waterways of the Okavango Delta on a traditional mokoro excursion.

The golden light reflects off the still water while frogs call from the reeds and elephants move quietly along the islands in the distance. Guided by local polers who know every channel and lagoon, this is one of the most peaceful ways to experience the Delta.

As the sun sets over one of Africa’s great wildernesses, there are few places on earth that feel quite this untouched.

Join us in Botswana and experience the magic of the Okavango Delta with Sunway Safaris.

Early morning in camp, the bush came alive with one of Africa’s most remarkable predators at work.

A large pack of African wild dogs moved through the area shortly after sunrise, their coordinated energy and constant communication filling the air. After a successful hunt, the pack gathered together, calling softly before regurgitating food to feed pups and other members of the group.

It is a rare and intimate glimpse into the social structure of one of the continent’s most efficient and endangered hunters, where survival is shared and every member of the pack matters.

Update on John Travulture!

At Sunway Safaris, we love sharing conservation stories that connect our travellers to the wildlife we are so passionate about.

We recently received a fantastic update from VulPro on our adopted African White backed Vulture, John Travulture.

He is thriving and, true to form, remains one of the biggest personalities at the centre. Rescued from the muthi trade and fully imprinted, John Travulture is completely at ease around people. Unlike wild vultures that tend to keep their distance, he will confidently walk right up to the enclosure edge to see what is going on, much to the delight of visitors.

He has also earned a reputation as a bit of a troublemaker. Whether staff are cleaning, feeding or carrying out daily care, he is always nearby, “helping” in his own mischievous way and making sure he is part of the action.

While many of the African White backed Vultures have recently been relocated to a breeding facility in the Eastern Cape, John Travulture is still at Hartbeespoort for now. He is still young, so breeding will come later, and in the meantime he continues to entertain and educate everyone who meets him.

Stories like this are a reminder of the critical work being done behind the scenes to protect Africa’s wildlife and the individuals that make it so special.

Thank you to .official for the incredible work you do, and to our community for supporting conservation initiatives that truly make a difference.

Step into one of the most extraordinary desert landscapes on earth with Sunway Safaris in Sossusvlei.

The day starts early, but it is worth every moment. As the first light touches the dunes, you climb Dune 45 and watch the desert transform in colour and shadow, a moving landscape of silence and scale.

From here, the journey continues deeper into the heart of the Namib. At Dead Vlei, you walk across a surreal white clay pan framed by towering red dunes and ancient, skeletal trees, a scene that feels almost otherworldly.

To complete the experience, you descend into Sesriem Canyon, a narrow natural gorge carved over millions of years, offering a striking contrast to the vast openness of the dunes above.

A day of contrasts, scale, and unforgettable desert moments.

Learning to Pole in the Okavango: a first time experience for our Sunway team member Rachel! Read what she had to say!

Tried my hand at poling a mokoro in the Okavango Delta and it is not as easy as it looks.

Balancing, steering, and pushing through the channels takes real skill and serious core strength. Massive respect to the local polers who glide through these waterways so effortlessly.

For a moment though, I found the rhythm and felt completely connected to the Delta.

Sunway Safaris sends staff members on tour to ensure the team has first hand knowledge of the destinations, routes, and accommodations used on our itineraries. Experiencing the journey themselves allows staff to understand travel logistics, park procedures, and the overall client experience in a practical way. These trips also support personal development by building field knowledge, confidence, and a deeper understanding of Sunway operations across Southern Africa, strengthening the expertise within the Sunway Safaris team.
