A SUCCESSFUL TRANSPORT MONTH EVENT IN SOWETO

SOSTO Cluster of Associations, under the Greater Johannesburg Learner Transport Organisation (GJLTO), in partnership with the City of Johannesburg, successfully hosted its Transport Month event yesterday at Jabulani Mall, Soweto.

The event brought together key stakeholders, scholar transport operators, law enforcement agencies, community members and other role players to promote awareness and encourage collaboration towards safer roads and the protection of our children.

Transport Month serves as an important reminder that road safety is a shared responsibility. As scholar transport operators, we carry a critical responsibility to ensure that every learner travels safely to and from school.

Through partnerships, education and community engagement, we can strengthen road safety awareness, promote compliance with transport regulations, and work together to build a safer and more reliable scholar transport industry.

SOSTO Cluster of Associations extends its sincere appreciation to the City of Johannesburg, all participating stakeholders, partners, associations and everyone who contributed to making this event a success.

Together, through unity and collaboration, we can make a difference!

SAFETY FIRST. CHILDREN FIRST. ROAD SAFETY IS EVERYONE'S RESPONSIBILITY

WHAT A GLORIOUS AND HISTORIC DAY!

Today was filled with joy, celebration, and hope as the MEC for Transport, Ms. Kedibone Diale, hosted women from all sectors of the transport industry at the Siyabakhumbula Event

A huge congratulations to GGLTO Ekurhuleni Region (NETCO Association) on receiving their long-awaited Operating Licences (OLs). This milestone reflects your perseverance, commitment, and dedication to providing safe and reliable learner transport services.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the schools that issued support letters to our Ekurhuleni operators. Your partnership has played an important role in making this achievement possible.

To every learner transport operator who received an Operating Licence today—well done! This is a step forward for our industry and for the safety of the learners we transport every day.

Together we are building a stronger, safer, and more professional learner transport industry.

LEARNER TRANSPORT UPDATE – LENASIA COMMUNITY

Community Safety, law enforcement agencies, learner Transport Drivers and residents recently came together to address ongoing challenges affecting our operating areas in Lenasia. These include loud music, traffic congestion, littering etc.

As operators, we fully acknowledge these concerns and remain committed to improving discipline, safety, and respect within our communities. Our goal is to ensure a safe, clean, and reliable transport environment for all our learners.

However, it is important for the community to note:

The City of Johannesburg Infrastructure Department had proposed building a dedicated parking facility for learner transport operators in Lenasia. Funding had already been approved and space for this project. Unfortunately, the proposal was declined by local residents, resulting in the funds being returned to Treasury.

The lack of a designated parking space continues to contribute to congestion and other challenges in the area.

We believe that working together is the solution. We encourage ongoing dialogue between residents, transport operators, and the City to find a way forward that benefits everyone—especially our children.

Let’s work together to build a safer, cleaner, and more organised transport system for our learners.
