A significant milestone has arrived as the first eight Wabtec Corporation C28 locomotives have reached the Port of Durban, marking the first delivery under Traxtion's R1.8 billion locomotive investment programme. Following from the locomotive program will be an investment into approximately R1.6 billion in wagons.

Over the next two years, 46 locomotives will enter service, expanding freight rail capacity across Southern Africa and supporting government's vision of greater private sector participation in the rail sector.

The locomotives will be refurbished at our Rail Services Hub in Pretoria, supporting South African engineering expertise, skilled employment and local supply chains while helping unlock additional freight capacity for businesses across the region. The project is a valuable one for the downstream domestic railway industry with 78% local procurement and 60% local content.

As South Africa's freight rail reforms move from policy to implementation, investment like this will play an important role in building a stronger, more competitive logistics network.

Following Traxtion's announcement as a key investment at this year's Gauteng Investment Conference, we were pleased to welcome representatives from the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency (GGDA) to our Rail Services Hub in Pretoria as part of their ongoing investment support and progress monitoring programme.

The visit provided an opportunity to share an update on our investment in 46 locomotives and supporting rolling stock, which continues to progress well. It also gave the GGDA delegation firsthand insight into the work being undertaken at our facility and the significant milestones achieved to date.

We value the GGDA's continued support and commitment to enabling strategic investments that strengthen South Africa's rail sector. Through collaboration, innovation and long-term investment, we are helping shape the future of rail while contributing to sustainable economic growth.

We’re passionate about all things rail and locomotive related – and equally passionate about providing world-class quality and safety. Above all, we are committed to bringing fresh prospects, progress and new horizons to the people of Africa.

On Thursday, 9 July 2026, Traxtion had the privilege of hosting key stakeholders from across the rail industry at the second annual Railways of Africa Golf Day at the prestigious River Club Golf Course in Sandton.

More than just a day on the fairway, the event provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen existing relationships, forge new partnerships, and foster meaningful collaboration. Away from the boardroom, delegates connected in a relaxed setting, exchanged ideas, and reinforced the relationships that continue to drive the growth and advancement of Africa's rail sector.

We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who joined us and helped make this year's Railways of Africa Golf Day another memorable success. Your continued support and partnership are instrumental in making initiatives like these meaningful, creating opportunities to strengthen industry collaboration and build a more connected rail sector. Together, we are shaping the future of rail across Africa.

A glimpse into our operations on the Sena Railway Line in Mozambique.

Spanning approximately 660 km, each journey takes around 24 hours, demonstrating the efficiency, reliability, and capacity of rail in connecting the mines of the Moatize region in Tete Province to the Port of Beira for export.

The operation combines Traxtion-leased C30 locomotives with customer-owned GT26CW-3 locomotives, operating in a two-locomotive multiple-unit (MU) configuration. Each train hauls 43 wagons, carrying 62 tonnes per wagon of thermal coal and hard coking coal, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of critical export commodities.

At Traxtion, we are proud to keep Africa's freight moving by delivering safe, reliable, and efficient rail solutions that connect industries, strengthen supply chains, and unlock access to global markets.

As we commemorate Mandela Day, we are reminded that lasting change begins with each of us. As Nelson Mandela so powerfully said, "It is still in our hands to combat poverty and inequity."

At Traxtion, we are proud to honour Madiba's legacy by turning compassion into action and investing in initiatives that create meaningful, lasting impact beyond the 67 minutes.

Together, we can help build stronger communities and a brighter future.

Happy Mandela Day.

This Mandela Day, we partnered with PMA Holdings to establish a sustainable vegetable garden at the Itireleng Residential Care Facility for the Disabled in Ga-Rankuwa, Pretoria.

The initiative included five days of practical plant care training, giving staff and residents the knowledge and confidence to care for the garden long after Mandela Day. As it grows, the garden will provide a reliable source of fresh produce, help ease food costs for the facility and create opportunities for residents to develop practical skills that support greater independence and self-sufficiency. We also donated blankets to provide residents with some added warmth and comfort during winter.

At Traxtion, we believe the strongest communities are built through partnerships, shared purpose and sustainable solutions, and are grateful for the opportunity to bring this initiative to life.
