Today, on World Environment Day, we reaffirm a principle that sits at the very heart of Cape Winelands Airport: sustainability is not a feature of this project - it is the foundation upon which it is being built.

From the earliest stages of planning, environmental responsibility has guided our thinking and shaped our decisions. As we work towards becoming one of the greenest airports in the world, we remain deeply committed to embedding this ethos into every layer of the project - from resource efficiency and climate resilience to responsible land stewardship and forward-thinking infrastructure design.

But our vision extends beyond the airport itself. We are building an asset that delivers lasting value for the Western Cape region, while honouring and protecting the extraordinary natural environment that makes the Cape Winelands so remarkable.

The future of aviation is defined by how responsibly we build the infrastructure that gets us there, and at Cape Winelands Airport, this means designing with intention, building with care, and committing to a standard that we believe the industry must aspire to. Today, we recommit to that vision - for the communities around us and for a region we are proud to call home.

In less than just two weeks, Cape Winelands Airport will join some of the most influential voices shaping aviation across the continent at AviaDev Africa.

As Africa continues to redefine the future of connectivity, trade and regional growth, platforms like AviaDev Africa represent more than industry engagement - they represent the partnerships and conversations that shape the next generation of aviation across the continent.

We look forward to connecting with global and regional stakeholders, strengthening relationships and sharing the long-term vision for Cape Winelands Airport as we continue working toward a more connected future for the Cape Winelands and beyond.

The future of African aviation is built through collaboration - and we are proud to be part of that journey.

This week, the 10th Annual Wine Tourism South Africa Conference brought together leading voices from across the tourism, hospitality and aviation sectors to engage on the future of South Africa’s tourism economy.

Cape Winelands Airport was proud to contribute to these important conversations, with Managing Director, Deon Cloete joining industry leaders for a focused discussion on the infrastructure, accessibility and policy shifts required to unlock the country’s full tourism potential.

Held under the theme, “Doubling Tourism: Bold Vision or Dangerous Fantasy?”, the session was moderated by Xolani Mancotywa and included insights from Kim Taylor at SATSA. The discussion explored the practical mechanisms needed to support sustainable tourism growth and strengthen the integration of tourism into the broader economy.

For Cape Winelands Airport, these conversations are particularly significant. Located in the heart of one of South Africa’s most iconic wine and tourism regions, the airport has the potential to play a meaningful role in improving access to the Cape Winelands, supporting regional tourism growth, and strengthening connectivity to a region that contributes significantly to the Western Cape economy.

The wine industry remains one of the region’s most important economic and tourism drivers supporting jobs, exports, hospitality, agriculture and destination marketing at both a regional and national level. Improved accessibility and infrastructure connectivity will be critical in supporting the continued growth and global competitiveness of this sector.

We believe that strategic infrastructure investment, collaboration across sectors, and long-term planning will be essential in ensuring South Africa remains globally competitive as a tourism destination. We value the opportunity to engage with industry leaders who are committed to shaping a more connected, accessible and prosperous future for tourism in South Africa.

Cape Winelands Airport appreciates the opportunity to have participated in the recent CEO Roundtable, Navigating Turbulence: Cape Town’s Economy in the Shadow of Middle East Instability, alongside leaders from the aviation, tourism, banking and government sectors, hosted by Accelerate Cape Town and Cape Town Tourism.

The current geopolitical uncertainty reminds us that no industry or economy operates in isolation. Aviation, tourism and trade are deeply interconnected, and while we are not immune to global developments, collaboration remains key in navigating uncertainty and strengthening resilience.

We thank the organisers for facilitating an important and timely dialogue that brought together diverse perspectives at a critical moment for our economy and industry.

We are encouraged by the resilience, adaptability and collective commitment being shown across sectors, and remain optimistic about what can be achieved through continued partnership and engagement.

Following the 6th Annual South Africa Investment Conference, Cape Winelands Airport is proud to be recognised as part of South Africa’s investment momentum, with a planned R10 billion capital investment set to transform air access in South Africa and unlock new economic potential.

This catalytic project is more than merely investment in infrastructure; it’s a driver of socio-economic growth. Improved air connectivity will stimulate tourism, enable trade, attract further investment, and create meaningful job opportunities across the Western Cape and beyond, as air access remains a critical enabler of economic growth. Through the airport expansion, Cape Winelands Airport is positioned to play a key role in connecting people, markets, and opportunities.

In a moment of immense pride for our team, Non-Executive Board member, Blacky Komani was invited onto the stage where the catalytic impact of the airport expansion project was recongised by President Cyril Ramaphosa. This represents a powerful affirmation of the vision behind the project and the role it will play in driving investment, regional connectivity, tourism and economic growth in the Western Cape.

This moment is not only an important milestone for the project, but also a reminder that future-focused infrastructure has an important role to play in shaping South Africa’s future.

As Cape Winelands Airport continues to progress, we remain focused on translating this vision into a development that will support growth, strengthen connectivity and unlock new opportunities for the region.

Angola is hosting the prestigious ACI World 2026 Conference in Luanda. The conference brings together airport leaders, regulators and key industry decision-makers from across the continent to explore the future of aviation, infrastructure, connectivity and investment in Africa.

Cape Winelands Airport was proud to be represented at the event, where our Director, Mark Wilkinson, joined airport leaders and industry stakeholders in discussions shaping the next chapter of African aviation.

As part of the programme, Mark presented Cape Winelands Airport as a case study in airport development, sharing insights into the project’s long-term vision, the role it can play in strengthening regional connectivity, and the importance of delivering infrastructure that is future-focused, sustainable and globally competitive.

His contribution reinforced the importance of strategic planning, collaboration and long-term thinking in developing airport infrastructure that responds to the needs of both communities and the broader aviation sector.

As African aviation continues to evolve, forums such as this are critical in shaping the ideas, partnerships and leadership that will define the continent’s future. Cape Winelands Airport is a proud partner of ACI World and values being a part of these conversations which are essential to building a stronger, more connected and more competitive aviation network for Africa.

We simply love the design inspiration shaping Cape Winelands Airport.

These reference images begin to articulate a clear architectural direction - one that draws deeply from the landscape, textures and identity of the Cape Winelands, while setting a new standard for contemporary airport design.

In collaboration with Boogertman + Partners Architects, the ambition is to create a space where architecture does more than serve a function - it defines experience. A space that is grounded in its environment, but refined, modern and globally competitive.

These images represent the foundation of that thinking.
