Cape Town is getting a new airport! The Cape Winelands Airport is set to become the city’s second-largest airport after Cape Town International.
The privately owned project, formerly known as Fisantekraal Airfield, is now entering its final environmental impact assessment stage and is targeted for commissioning in 2028.
Pending environmental approvals, construction is expected to begin in early 2026, with phased development starting with runway and safety infrastructure, followed by terminal, cargo, and industrial zones.
Backed by a strategic partnership between Cape Winelands Airport and Growthpoint Properties, the development aims to create a next-generation aviation, hospitality, and industrial hub in the region.
The initial R8 billion investment will fund terminal buildings, runways, and a 450-hectare developable estate, forming the backbone of the new airport precinct.
