As a storm approached on the horizon, we were heading back when our vehicle got a puncture. While the spare tyre was being changed, we got out and noticed several giraffes walking slowly up the dry riverbed near the vehicle. I quietly started walking alongside them, camera in hand, taking photos and soaking in the incredible scene.
In the distance, the storm broke over the mountains, and as the rain cleared, intense sunbeams cut through the clouds. A rainbow stretched across the sky, perfectly framing the family of giraffes in the foreground. The contrast between the storm-lit mountains, the golden sunbeams, and the calm, graceful giraffes made the moment feel almost otherworldly.
Having my camera ready allowed me to capture the giraffes in their natural environment, moving slowly across the dry riverbed as if nothing else existed. The light, the landscape, and the wildlife all came together in perfect harmony. It was a rare and fleeting moment that reminded me why I love photographing nature, its unpredictability, its beauty, and the sense of being completely present in a wild, untamed place.
