Did you know the African penguin was once commonly known as the Jackass Penguin?

The nickname comes from one of its most distinctive calls. During the breeding season, adults produce a loud, braying sound that is remarkably similar to the call of a donkey—earning them the nickname “jackass penguin.”

If you visit Boulders or Stony Point and hear what sounds like a donkey in the distance, don’t be surprised… it’s probably a penguin announcing its territory or calling to its mate!

As a tour guide, it’s one of my favourite facts to share because it always catches visitors by surprise. Nature has a wonderful sense of humour!

A kind reminder to all visitors to Cape Town, Table Mountain and the surrounding areas: please do not feed the baboons, dassies or other wild animals.

While it may seem harmless or the perfect Insta photo to your followers, feeding wildlife teaches animals to associate people with food, changes their natural behaviour, and can ultimately put both animals and humans at risk. Animals that become habituated to human food often become more aggressive and are more likely to get into dangerous situations.

As a tour guide, I have personally witnessed visitors feeding baboons and dassies four times in the last seven days alone. (And yes, I politely told them to STOP as it is not allowed and indicated with clear signage everywhere!) It is disappointing to see, especially when so much effort goes into protecting these incredible animals and the unique ecosystem they call home.

Please enjoy watching wildlife from a respectful distance, take photos, and help us keep Cape Town’s wild spaces truly wild.

And a fair warning: if I see you feeding wildlife, don’t be surprised if your photo ends up being posted in this group as well as reported to authorities. Public shaming isn’t my preferred approach, but neither is watching people ignore the rules time and time again that exist to protect these animals.

Thank you for doing your part to protect our wildlife.

You didn’t disappoint tonight… 💚

Please note that Table Mountain Aerial Cableway will close for annual maintenance from Monday, 27 July to Sunday, 9 August 2026.

This scheduled closure allows our technical team to carry out the necessary inspections, upgrades and maintenance work to ensure the Cableway continues to operate safely and efficiently to the highest international standards.

🎂 Visitors celebrating birthdays in July and August will still have ample time within both months to redeem their free birthday return ticket.

We encourage all visitors to plan ahead and take note of these dates when preparing for their trip to the mountain.

Thank you for your understanding as we continue to care for one of Cape Town’s most iconic attractions.

When you choose to explore Cape Town with me, you’re getting so much more than JUST a tour guide.

You’re getting a passionate local who genuinely loves sharing this incredible corner of the world with others. Someone who takes the time to understand what makes your trip special and tailors the experience around you, your interests, and your pace.

My tours are not about rushing from one attraction to the next. They’re about creating meaningful moments, sharing stories, discovering hidden gems, and making memories that will stay with you long after you’ve returned home.

With years of local knowledge and experience, I’ll help you see Cape Town through the eyes of someone who truly loves it here. From iconic landmarks and breathtaking scenery to local culture, wildlife, food, and history, you’ll gain insights that you simply won’t find in a guidebook.

Guests often tell me that it feels less like a guided tour and more like a road trip with an old friend. We laugh, we chat, we share stories, and along the way genuine connections are formed.

For me, guiding is about people. It’s about creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere where you feel comfortable, cared for, and free to fully enjoy every moment of your adventure.

The sights are unforgettable, but it’s the connections, experiences, and memories we create together that are truly priceless.

I can’t wait to share the magic of Cape Town with you.

❤️ Debbie

There is something truly special about standing on top of Table Mountain.

The noise of the world seems to fade away, replaced by fresh mountain air, endless horizons, and a deep sense of peace. Looking out across Cape Town, the ocean, and the mountains beyond, it’s impossible not to feel free.

For a moment, time slows down. The worries of everyday life feel smaller, and all that remains is a feeling of tranquility, gratitude, and connection to nature.

This is the magic of Table Mountain — not just the views, but the way it makes you feel.

No matter how many times I guide visitors to Table Mountain, I still find myself stopping to admire it.

Perhaps it’s the way the morning light paints the cliffs, the famous “tablecloth” clouds rolling over the summit, or the incredible feeling of standing above one of the world’s most beautiful cities. Whatever the reason, Table Mountain continues to impress me every single day.

Recognised as one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature, this remarkable landmark is more than a sightseeing stop – it’s an experience. A place where nature, history, and breathtaking scenery come together in perfect harmony.

Cape Town simply wouldn’t be Cape Town without it.
