At this time of year you don’t simply see Victoria Falls, you feel it. 🌈

From May to July, the Zambezi River reaches its most dramatic flow, sending unimaginable volumes of water crashing into the gorge below. The roar echoes through the landscape, the mist rises like smoke into the sky, and the ground itself seems to tremble beneath your feet.

Rainbows form through the spray.
The roar echoes through the rainforest.
And every viewpoint feels almost unreal.

This is when Victoria Falls is at its most powerful. Wild, immersive, unforgettable.

Right now, travellers are witnessing the falls in full flow, soaking up the mist, taking scenic helicopter flights, cruising the Zambezi at sunset, and experiencing one of Africa’s greatest wonders at its peak.

And if this is going straight onto your bucket list… now is the perfect time to start planning for next year’s high water season. ✨

At The Travel Cafe, we create tailor-made African journeys designed around experiences that leave a lasting impact.

Earlier this year, while travelling through Namibia, we shared some of the country's most iconic scenes with you, endless dunes, remote roads, and landscapes that seem to stretch forever.

But one place we didn't tell you enough about was the Caprivi.

Tucked away in the far north, where rivers replace deserts and wildlife gathers along the water's edge, it's a side of Namibia that surprises almost everyone who visits.

Watch the video to discover why this remarkable region deserves a place on your travel list.

Interested in experiencing it for yourself? Our Namibia Essentials Mini Group Journey includes time in the Caprivi and many of Namibia's other highlights.

100 years of wild wonder.
100 years of stories written in dust, sunsets, and silence.

On 31 May 1926, Kruger National Park was officially proclaimed, a bold step to protect a wilderness that was already ancient long before us.

From its beginnings as the Sabie Game Reserve in 1898, created to protect dwindling wildlife, to becoming one of Africa’s most iconic safari destinations… Kruger has always been about one thing: preservation, connection, and awe.

Nearly 20,000 km² of untamed beauty.
Hundreds of species.
Thousands of moments that stay with you forever.

We’ve been lucky enough to travel here, to experience it firsthand,
early morning game drives, the stillness before the heat,
the kind of sightings that don’t feel real until they are.

It’s more than just a destination…
it’s one of those places that changes you.

And while today we celebrate Kruger,
we’re reminded of all the wild places that call us back again and again,
like Etosha, another unforgettable stop on the journey.

Here’s to 100 years of conservation, and to many more still to come.

Somewhere between the dusty Karoo plains, glowing sculptures, fire-lit art cars and endless desert skies, something magical happens.

This was our third AfrikaBurn, and somehow it felt even more special than the last.

Out in the vast Tankwa Karoo, the landscape becomes part of the experience. Golden sunrises spill across the desert floor, sunsets turn the dust to gold, and at night the stars feel close enough to touch.

But what stays with us most is always the people.

AfrikaBurn brings together creatives, dreamers, artists, builders and kind souls from all over South Africa and across the world. Different stories, backgrounds and languages, all connected through openness, creativity and community.

There’s something refreshing about a space built around contribution rather than consumption. Strangers become friends over coffee, conversation and shared wonder. Everywhere you look, there’s creativity in its purest form — from handcrafted outfits and mutant vehicles to towering installations rising from the desert floor.

We left dusty, exhausted, inspired and incredibly grateful.

Until next time, Tankwa ✨

“You finally booked that trip…” ✨

The one you’ve been dreaming about, and few places deliver quite like the legendary Kruger National Park, home to the iconic Big Five and unforgettable wildlife encounters.

Did you know?
During the dry winter months (June–September), animals gather around rivers and waterholes, making sightings even more spectacular. Hippos are often seen in larger pods during this time, a true safari highlight.
It’s one of the best seasons to visit, so if Kruger is on your bucket list, now is a great time to start booking and secure your preferred dates.

We’ll handle the planning, you just enjoy the adventure.

A desert… that floods. Natural phenomenon doesn’t get much better than this.
At the peak of the dry season in Botswana, when you’d expect dust and stillness - a miracle arrives. Water. Slowly, quietly it transforms the country’s Okavango Delta region into something almost surreal.

Each year, floodwaters make their long journey from Angola, spilling into this vast landscape and reshaping it into a maze of crystal-clear channels and wildlife-rich islands. As the water rises, animals are drawn in, and the Delta becomes a place of rare, concentrated life.

This is when it feels at its most extraordinary. Many describe it as the crème de la crème of safari experiences in Africa.

Gliding through these waterways in a traditional mokoro, with elephants nearby and birdlife overhead, is not your typical safari. It’s slower, quieter, far more immersive and far more rewarding.

From May onwards, this transformation begins, peaking in July. The most sought-after camps tend to fill well in advance with most guests planning 12 to 18 months in advance to get the pick of the crop at their ideal level of luxury, be that entry-level 4-star or super-lux 5-star+.

If the Okavango Delta has been on your bucket list, perhaps now is the moment to start shaping it?

Millions on the move… and one of nature’s greatest spectacles unfolding before your eyes.

Each year, the Great Migration reaches the Masai Mara as vast herds of wildebeest and zebra cross from the Serengeti in search of fresh grazing, a dramatic journey filled with raw beauty and unforgettable wildlife moments. Think river crossings, powerful predator encounters, and the kind of scenes you’ve only ever watched in documentaries.

With migration season approaching (typically July–October, peaking around August), now is the time to start planning if this bucket-list safari has been calling your name. The best lodges and viewing spots book up quickly, and this is one experience worth securing in advance.

Ready to witness the wild in motion?
