The proposed Capetrain Express interchange in Philippi has the potential to deliver meaningful social impact. A station in this location would transform some of Cape Townโs most economically disadvantaged and spatially disconnected communities within the Philippi, Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain transit corridors into one of the best-connected parts of the metro.
More than a station, it would become an engine of economic opportunity. Transit-oriented development that embraces the township economy, local enterprise and informality would create jobs, support entrepreneurship and unlock new investment into these communities.
A modern, integrated minibus-taxi rank within the station precinct would ensure that the Capetrain Express compliments existing commuter services, partnering with taxi operators to improve efficiency, connectivity and commercial sustainability.
The result: a truly integrated transportation ecosystem that improves mobility, strengthens the local economy and expands opportunity.
Infrastructure should not simply move people. It should change lives.
