That's a rare sight indeed!

A local man captured the rare moment a massive whale swam right up to the docks at a Waterfront harbour, forcing nearby boats to shut off their engines 😲. Video in the comments.

Hippos are like carbon-based submersible amphibious vehicles!
Their eyes, nostrils and ears sit high on their heads, giving them access to a multi-sensory periscope that allows them to remain submerged but attentive to their surroundings for long periods of time.
Their eyes not only have a clear membrane, essentially swimming goggles protecting them from water, silt and debris, but also a reflective layer known as the 'tapetum lucidum', which boosts low light and is visible in infrared videography like this.

There have been a couple of incidents of demonstrations and protests on the R335 at Motherwell outside Port Elizabeth over the last few weeks. We would like to once again encourage visitors to the Sundays River Valley and Addo Elephant National Park Main Gate to use the alternative route (N2 - N10 - R342) via Nanaga and Paterson.
