A limo or party bus rental is cheaper than a DUI!
Dodge City Days is a week-long festival held every year. As a way to ensure the roads are kept safe from impaired drivers during this busy week, the Dodge City Police Department holds a DUI checklane on each of the Saturday's of Dodge City Days.
MADD thanks the Dodge City Police Department, Kansas Highway Patrol and the Ford County Sheriff's Office for their efforts in keeping our roads safe from drunk drivers and educating drivers of the dangers of driving impaired. Officer's from these agencies participated in these two checklanes with the following results.
Saturday, July 30th, with a total of 29 law enforcement officers working the checklane:
353 - Vehicles checked that came through the checklane
54 - Standard Field Sobriety Tests (SFST) conducted
19 - DUI arrests
27 - Drug and/or alcohol related arrests
Saturday, August 6th, with 23 law enforcement officers working the checklane:
376 - Vehicles checked that came through the checklane
68 - Standard Field Sobriety Tests (SFST) conducted
14 - DUI arrests
21 - Drug and/or alcohol related arrests
In only two nights, 52 law enforcement officer's checked over 729 vehicles, made 33 DUI arrests and 48 alcohol and drug-related arrests. This is why MADD supports the importance of DUI checklanes.
A special shout-out goes to Sgt. Thad Brown with the Dodge City Police Department. Thad is extremely dedicated to removing impaired drivers from the roads and keeping his community safe. Thad has been a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) for over ten years and received AAA's DRE of the Year award. Thad also was recognized as the MADD Kansas Officer of the Year. Thad is a great example to other officers when it comes to impaired driving efforts. Thank you for all you do, Sgt. Brown!
