Can I say the same for the marine transport industry in Uganda? Our travel numbers - particularly on MV Kalangala, are at all time low. Under the previous Christmas period (2020), we experienced a 65% decrease in number of travelers visiting Kalangala in comparison to the previous two years (2018 & 2019) under the same period. Valentines day was a bit okay when we think of domestic tourism because the visit to the islands was incentivized by the hoteliers at the Islands. Even without the festive holidays, the numbers are still staggering. Recovery is hardly there but we are looking forward to what the next few months have to offer as the Europeans lessen on their travel restrictions . Can Easter be the stimulus to our domestic travel recovery? We are yet to see.

Industry figures have urged the prime minister to provide a "roadmap" to get people travelling again.
