What a profound day it has been for our lovely guests, Susane and Martin, as they immersed themselves in the peaceful essence of Hue on their Vietnam Buddhist Tour.

From the misty morning views atop Vong Canh Hill to the soul-stirring history of Tu Hieu Temple and the walk in both of the Huyen Khong pagodas, it was a day dedicated to mindfulness and discovery. Susane and Martin had the unique opportunity to witness the Mahayana and Theravada buddhism in the Hue city.

Goodbye, Susane and Martin! It was an absolute joy to host you. We are so glad you found moments of genuine conversation & sharing as well as the joy in our ancient capital. We hope the serenity of Hue stays with you long after you return home.

In Hue Buddhism, Vu Lan Báo Hiếu is one of the most significant festivals, second only to Vesak. Celebrated on the 15th day of the 7th lunar month, this festival is a deeply meaningful occasion for showing love and gratitude towards parents and worshiping ancestors and deceased loved ones.

One of the most touching traditions in Hue is the symbolic act of pinning a rose on the shirt. This practice, rich in meaning and emotion, adds a profound layer of significance to the festival.
The Symbolism of the Rose:
Red Rose: A red rose pinned on the shirt signifies that one’s parents are still alive. It symbolizes the wearer's gratitude and love for their living parents, expressing joy and appreciation for their presence in their lives.
White Rose: A white rose, on the other hand, is worn by those whose parents have passed away. It represents mourning and remembrance, serving as a poignant reminder of the love and respect held for deceased family members.

On this special day, many locals engage in time-honored practices such as visiting graves and lighting incense to pay respects to departed family members. Many also visit local pagodas to pray for the health and well-being of their families, and most people choose to enjoy vegan treats and meals.

What an experience at Huyen Khong Son Thuong, a part of our Buddhism in Hue, Philosophy of Life tour!

Hue, often referred to as the spiritual heart of Vietnam, is home to many ancient temples and pagodas. The city's serene atmosphere and rich cultural heritage make it a perfect place to delve into the teachings of Buddhism.

The monks graciously guided us through breathing exercises, meditation techniques, and the art of improving our health through walking exercises. It was a transformative experience that left us feeling rejuvenated and more connected to our inner selves.

Additionally, we had the unique opportunity to practice calligraphy, an art form deeply rooted in Buddhist tradition. The artist showed us how to create beautiful characters, and we can do it ourselves to make a souvenir gift back home.
