The Virgin Islands Shipping and Maritime Authority (VISMA) wishes to advise all mariners that the East End/Long Look Festival Boat Race is scheduled to take place on Sunday, 2 August 2026, in the channel between Great Camanoe and Long Bay Beach, Beef Island.

The participating vessels can operate at extremely high speeds and perform high-speed manoeuvres resulting in quickly closing CPA's. Mariners are encouraged to keep well clear of the racecourse and participating vessels.

What to do:
β€’ Exercise extreme caution and maintain an exceptional lookout in this area.
β€’ Proceed at a safe speed and keep well clear of the racecourse and participating vessels.
β€’ Monitor local marine communications for instructions or safety updates.
β€’ Comply promptly with any directions issued by event officials, safety vessels, or relevant authorities.

See the full navigational warning and racecourse map in the graphic below for specific coordinates.

πŸ›₯️ For owners of BVI registered pleasure yachts, the line between private use and chartering has often meant choosing one mode or working through the friction of switching registration each time the use changes.

Yacht Engaged in Trade (YET) certification offers a different approach. It is a dual-use programme that lets owners continue using their yacht privately while keeping the option to charter in EU waters when it suits them, in line with EU VAT and Port State Control requirements.

Marine Circular 01/2026 published by VISMA, sets out how YET works in practice: covering the advantages it offers, who is eligible, the limitations that apply, the application and certification process, and the conditions for maintaining YET status.
