🔴 Technical Definition of a Stall

A stall is an aerodynamic condition in which the wing's angle of attack (AOA) exceeds a critical value, causing the airflow over the wing’s upper surface to separate. This results in a rapid loss of lift, a significant increase in drag, and often a loss of aircraft control authority, especially if not recognized and corrected immediately.

▶ Key Points:

☑️ A stall is not directly caused by low speed, but by exceeding the critical angle of attack, typically between 15°–18°, depending on airfoil design.
☑️ A stall can occur at any airspeed, pitch attitude, or configuration, if the critical AOA is exceeded.
☑️ Stall speed (Vs) is a reference value, valid only under specific flight conditions. Exceeding AOA at higher speeds can still lead to a stall.
☑️ The stall typically begins at the wing root to preserve aileron effectiveness longer (in most wing designs).

▶ Stall Cues and Recognition

☑️ Airframe buffeting.
☑️ Stall warning system activation (stick shaker, aural warning, Stick pusher).
☑️ Reduced control effectiveness, especially in roll.
☑️ High nose-up pitch, accompanied by increasing rate of descent.

▶ Stall Recovery (standard procedure)

The goal is to exit the stall condition, not to maintain altitude.

☑️ Reduce the angle of attack immediately (forward control input).
☑️ Apply maximum available thrust.
☑️ Level the wings to avoid spin entry.
☑️ Recover to a stable flight path and re-establish desired performance.

🔴 Human Factors in Aviation

▶ Definition:

Human Factors in aviation refers to the study of how people interact with each other and with other elements in the aviation system such as machines, environments, and procedures. It focuses on understanding human capabilities and limitations, with the goal of enhancing safety, performance, and operational effectiveness.

▶ Why is it important?

Approximately 70-80% of aviation accidents are due to human error, not mechanical failure. Understanding how pilots, air traffic controllers, maintenance crews, and cabin staff think, behave, and make decisions is key to accident prevention.

▶ Key Components of Human Factors:

☑️ Fatigue: Reduces cognitive performance and decision-making.
☑️ Situational Awareness: Knowing what is happening around you, understanding it, and projecting future status.
☑️ Communication: Poor communication often contributes to incidents or accidents.
☑️ CRM (Crew Resource Management): Using all available resources human and technical for safe and efficient flight operations.
☑️ Decision-making: Judging risks and making choices under time pressure.
☑️ Physical and mental limits: Stress, fear, information overload, and cognitive biases can impair performance.

It is designed for ground attack, aerial reconnaissance, and air defense missions with advanced stealth, agility, and situational awareness.

Variants:

▶ F-35A: Conventional takeoff and landing (CTOL) – used by the U.S. Air Force and allies.

▶ F-35B: Short takeoff and vertical landing (STOVL) – used by the U.S. Marine Corps, UK Royal Navy, and others.

▶ F-35C: Carrier-based version – used by the U.S. Navy.

Key Features:

✅ Stealth technology to avoid radar detection
✅ Advanced avionics and sensor fusion
✅ Supersonic speed and high maneuverability
✅ Network-centric warfare capabilities
✅ Single-seat, single-engine design

Operators:
The F-35 is used by several NATO countries and allies including the U.S., UK, Italy, Japan, Australia, and others.
