50 some years ago this man, my Uncle Lamar Peckham, "inspired" me to become a pilot. My first flight came in the back seat of what I remember being a Piper Cub. Of course I wanted to be an astronaut first, you know, go straight to the top. As I got older, flight was always in my sights. I started in 1984 with my first training flights right here at the Yucca Valley at the airport. I didn't finish until 1998 (kids), in Fullerton, CA. If you have never flown in an general aviation aircraft you are missing out on one of the most interesting sports there is. I encourage you to "bum" a ride by offering to pay for some gas for one of the pilots on the field. Saturday's at about 6:30 am is a great time to meet the crew.

We are saddened by the loss of Sen. John Glenn, the first American to orbit Earth. He also became a U.S. senator and later, at the age of 77 when he flew on the space shuttle, he became the oldest person to fly in space. Our deepest condolences go out to his dear wife Annie, his children, and the people who were inspired by him and loved him around the world. He was a friend, an astronaut and true American hero. Godspeed, John Glenn. Ad astra.

There are many ways the Yucca Valley airport serves the community at large. To wit, we were proud to host this war bird during a safety check out of its systems over night. Thanks to the crew for their service. The airport could not have been safer last night!

Helicopter operations into the Yucca Valley Airport. These folks, about 25 of them, visited the Joshua Tree National Park. It's one of the best ways to get to Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree.
