Another successful reefing project in the books.

Stevens Towing partnered with the North Carolina Artificial Reef Program to support two major artificial reef enhancements offshore of Cape Hatteras and Ocracoke.

The project involved transporting and deploying approximately 3,000 tons of recycled concrete pipe, boxes, and culverts across two reef sites, AR-230 and AR-250, helping create new marine habitat and expand fishing opportunities along North Carolina’s Outer Banks.

📍 AR-230 is located approximately six miles offshore of Hatteras Inlet in 70 feet of water, while AR-250 sits roughly 10 miles offshore of Ocracoke Inlet in 80 feet of water.

We’re proud to support projects that improve coastal infrastructure, enhance marine habitat, and contribute to the long-term health of our coastal waters.

Big congratulations to Ross Miller on being named a 2026 IMX 40 Under 40 honoree.

Ross has spent more than 15 years helping grow Stevens Towing across marine transportation, heavy project cargo, salvage, offshore wind, shipyard operations, and more.

He brings the kind of leadership, experience, and work ethic that earns respect across the maritime industry.

More importantly, he’s someone people trust.

We are proud to see Ross recognized among the next generation of leaders shaping the future of marine transportation.

Grace Simensen came in as a College of Charleston student with no maritime background.

Now she’s working alongside teams across our business.

At Stevens Towing, interns step into the real work. That’s how you learn this industry.

Whether it’s students in our welding apprenticeship or deckhands working toward their captain’s license, we’re investing in people who want to build something long-term.

Three talented graduating seniors from Baptist Hill High School recently wrapped up their apprenticeship at our Yonges Island Shipyard. Over the past semester, they gained hands-on welding experience under the guidance of William Holmes, and Linwood Wallace.

A huge congratulations to this year’s apprentices, and a special shout out to Marcus Heyward as this is his second time completing the student internship program, and we are excited that he will be continuing to work with us throughout the summer.

POV: You’re coming under the Wappoo Cut Bridge with a crane tow.

Local boaters know this bridge well.
Our crews know it even better.

You can always tell who’s done this a few thousand times before.

Stevens Towing was hired by Barnhart Crane & Rigging to deliver a new stator (934,405 lbs) and rotor (395,000 lbs) from the Port of Charleston to Dominion’s Surry Nuclear Power Plant in Virginia.

Charleston Heavy Lift loaded both pieces onto the Stevens 2501 deck barge, set up for a roll-off operation.

When we arrived in Surry, we brought in a spud barge to hold position alongside the current and keep everything stead for the offload.

Barnhart handled the roll-off and made it look easy.

There’s just something different about launching a vessel like the Spirit of South Carolina.

Built as a 140-foot traditional schooner and designed to connect new generations to Charleston’s maritime heritage, this vessel has spent years serving as a sail-training and educational platform for students across South Carolina.

Proud of our team for being part of another special day on the waterfront.
