🚌 SCHOOL BUS DRIVERS MATTER 🚌
Let’s clear something up: School bus drivers are not uneducated, unimportant, or “just the people who drive the bus.”
We are an important part of the school system, and we deserve to be treated and communicated with like the professionals we are.
School doesn’t happen without school bus drivers. Not every parent has the ability to drive their children to and from school every day.
Field trips don’t happen without bus drivers. Sports, activities, competitions, educational trips and special events all depend on drivers being available to safely transport students.
We don’t just drive. We are responsible for the safety of our students while they are in our care. We drive, pick up and drop off students, manage behavior, break up arguments, handle emergencies, keep students safe and sometimes have to be a driver, supervisor, referee and problem-solver all at the same time.
We are up and working before most people have even crawled out of bed. We’re checking our buses, preparing for our routes and making sure students get to school safely and on time.
And when the school day is over, we’re still working—transporting students home, driving activity routes, field trips, athletic events and whatever else the school needs.
We are expected to know our routes, our students, schedules, procedures, changes and safety requirements. In order to do our jobs effectively and efficiently, we need the information to do them.
That means communication matters.
School administrators, office staff, teachers and transportation staff should work together. When there are changes involving students, routes, schedules, activities or transportation, bus drivers need to be informed.
We shouldn't have to find out important information through a student, another parent, social media or by simply showing up and discovering that something has changed.
We are part of the school team.
We care about these kids. We want them to be safe. We want to do our jobs well. We want to support our schools and our communities.
So please remember:
Respect your bus drivers.
Communicate with your bus drivers.
Provide us with the information we need.
Work with us—not around us.
Because when we all work together, our students are the ones who benefit. 🚌❤️
School bus drivers aren't just drivers. We are an essential part of the team.
