Throwback to some custom motor mounts we fabricated for a Formula 400SS.

Formula supplied the original plans so we could duplicate them, since the mounts are no longer available. We cut them on our CNC plasma table, bent them in our press brake, welded them, and had them powder coated to match the originals.

Late night wrenching on this old school Checkmate pulling the engine for a flywheel replacement. Unfortunately once we got everything apart, we also found a broken drive coupler — and to make matters worse, it was the wrong coupler for this size engine.

Definitely pumped the brakes on getting her right back together, but finding problems like this now saves the customer from a much bigger failure later on.

That’s why we do things the right way — inspect everything while it’s apart and make sure it goes back together better than before. 🔧🔥

The owner of this 2021, 37’ Axopar 37 called us because the port engine kept dropping into guardian mode with a shift actuator fault in reverse. During testing, we also found the starboard engine randomly throwing codes as well.

Even though the diagnostic scan clearly showed the shift actuator duty cycle hanging open, we decided to dig deeper into the CAN bus system and verify voltage throughout the network before condemning additional components.

The boat needed two new starting batteries, so we replaced both batteries and cleaned up the related electrical connections before continuing testing. Weak voltage and unstable electrical supply can create all kinds of strange faults on modern systems, so it made sense to address the foundation first.

We’ll be heading back once the new actuator arrives to complete the repair, but hopefully the fresh batteries and stabilized electrical system calm down some of the intermittent issues she was experiencing.

Saturday we hustled and got this Nova her power plants back in place after being apart for over 10 years.

300-hour service on an older Honda outboard that wouldn’t fire up.

During the inspection, we checked the fuel system and found the inner liner of the fuel line breaking down from ethanol damage. That deteriorated liner can restrict fuel flow, clog filters, and cause hard-start or no-start issues.

A few more parts are on order, and once they’re installed, this one will be ready to get back on the water.

Old fuel lines and ethanol don’t mix. If your boat has been sitting, running rough, or giving you starting issues, it may be time to have the fuel system checked.
