The World's Longest Serving Flight Attendant Has Died

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bette Nash, the world's longest-serving flight attendant.

Bette Nash was a true aviation icon. In 2022, she etched her name in history by becoming the record holder for the world's longest-serving flight attendant, a remarkable feat at the age of 86. Sadly, her career in the skies, which spanned over 65 years, was grounded when cancer claimed her wings and recently forced her into an assisted care center.

American Airlines confirmed her passing with a post saying: "We mourn the passing of flight attendant Bette Nash, who spent nearly seven decades warmly caring for our customers in the air. She started her career in 1957 and proudly held the Guinness World Record for the longest-serving flight attendant. Bette was a legend at American and throughout the industry, inspiring generations of flight attendants. Fly high, Bette. We’ll miss you."

On this brisk Thanksgiving Day I am thankful for:

Being a proud Scottish immigrant and the opportunities my parent’s bold choice opened up for my sisters and I;

The privilege to have served my community for seventeen years with the Brevard County Sheriff's Office;

The amazing staff and treatment I recieved at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Brigham and Women's Hospital which has granted me a decade of renewed life and the opportunity to follow my dreams.

My family, near and far, who have thought me at times a complete nutter, yet have stood by me, each in their own way;

My truly inspiring partners working with me to make Commonwealth Airways take flight and reimagine the future or regional air service;

And most importantly - you, my friends, associates, acquaintances and neighbors whom have enriched my life in so many immeasurable ways.

I strive every day to be worthy of each and every one of these gifts and wish each of you as rich a life as I have enjoyed thus far and a thousand blessing more.
