LATEST UPDATE

Dear friends of North Point Marina,

Thanks so much for your patience as we’ve navigated through this situation. I know it’s been stressful waiting and wondering - and I’m so happy to finally be able to report some great news!

You may have heard rumors that a company has been identified to run the marina. And while procurement rules still prohibit me from actively sharing details, I can now tell you that is true!

There is now a brief public comment period the state has to go through before finalizing this. You can view the information here:
https://www.bidbuy.illinois.gov/bso/external/bidDetail.sda?docId=26-422DNR-REALT-B-50940&external=true&parentUrl=close

Once that is successfully completed, it will be fully official! I am incredibly happy about this outcome, believe the marina will be in great hands, and can’t wait for summer fun at the marina!

I am committed to continue working with the new management company, business owners and patrons of the marina, as well as with our community leaders and IDNR to help address outstanding and ongoing issues.

I want to thank all of you for offering advice, support, and suggestions along the way. Your voices were incredibly important in getting us here. I will send another update at the end of the public input period. And many thanks to Winthrop Harbor Mayor Michael Bruno, Administrator David Alarcon, Senator Edly-Allen and Congressman Schneider for their support and advocacy. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns in the meantime.

Best regards,
Joyce

Dear everyone,

I hope you all are having a great start to your new year, and I hope you had a happy holiday season! Thank you for your patience in this process. I know it must be stressful not to have information while slip holders are making decisions about where to put their boats and what the future may hold for the marina.

That being said, there is a lot of hope that I have and hold for the future of the marina and its reopening this summer. IDNR is still seeking emergency procurement and finalizing that with the vendor who may manage the marina this upcoming year. I will be in touch with you all as soon as I am able to give an update about anything at all, including when the procurement is finalized. Due to the procurement process and the legality and rules around that, I am unable to share any specific details at thsi time. Please know that I am in constant communication with IDNR about what is going on with this, and there is good news almost every time I speak with them.

I have also filed a bill to make the North Point Marina procurement exempt, that way the state can work directly with vendors for the management, winterization, and other contracts that deal directly with the marina. Senator Edly-Allen has also filed an identical bill in the Senate, and we are working with Springfield to ensure the easiest way forward for the marina and its oversight and management. These bill numbers are HB 4307 and SB 2518.

Please reach out if you have any further questions or concerns.

Best regards,
Joyce
