Winter Haven Municipal Airport – Gilbert Field (GIF) is a general aviation airport at its best. The airport supports over 70,000 flight operations per year and various activities, including but not limited to: aeromedical flights; law enforcement flights; search and rescue flights; charter flights; corporate flights; flight instruction; agricultural flights; aerial surveying and observation; touri

sm; and personal flying. GIF was classified by the FAA as a Regional General Aviation Airport due to its support to the regional economy by connecting the community to statewide and interstate markets. The Airport helps to keep existing employers in the community and to attract new ones to the region because companies value the transportation and competitive business advantages offered by general aviation airports. The Airport is surrounded by five lakes, making of GIF a natural choice for seaplane activities. Coupled with its natural resources, GIF is home to Brown’s Seaplane Base and the Seaplane Pilots Association. The Brown’s Seaplane Base has been providing seaplane training to national and international pilots since 1963. The Seaplane Pilots Association is the most influential association within the seaplane industry. The combination of these factors grants Winter Haven Municipal Airport the title of World’s Seaplane Capital. The Airport continues to grow. The plans for the future include not only major improvements to the airfield, but improvement of existing facilities and the addition of facilities for aeronautical and non-aeronautical businesses. The airport is positioning itself to accommodate aircraft/parts manufacturers and distributors, repair stations, educational institutions, hotels, retail stores, restaurants, and others.
