Unfortunately tonight we have to cancel the Lights and Flights and the makeup day for tomorrow will not work also due to the cold. We apologize but Mother Nature is the boss.

There are so many cool things that happen at the airport that people never hear about. Today a pilot wanted to stop in to see our new hangers because he is planning to start keeping his airplane here (yes he has an airplane also). So he decided to fly his helicopter in to check things out. And he decided to give a few rides while he was here. Did you know that a-lot of pilots enjoy taking people for rides, especially if they know it’s your first time. If you have never been in a helicopter you should try it sometime. It’s a really cool experience.

Yes they are back. If you are in the Randolph County area and see a low flying airplane you don’t need to call and let us know, we already know. Most people enjoy seeing them and their aerobatic maneuvers. If you want to complain, don’t call the airport you will need to talk to the farmer that hired them. My suggestion is to grab a chair and watch a free air show.

Pretty neat to have the US Marines using our airport to perform some practice takeoffs and landings and training some of their new pilots on our runway. You might ask why would they use our airport for this. The answer is: a lot of smaller airports do not have the thick/heavy concrete and asphalt that we do to handle such a heavy beast. But ours is capable of handling it with no problems at all. The pilots said they have landed at airports before and damaged the runway, taxiway or the tarmac. At 50,000 pounds it could do a lot of damage.
The helicopter and crew are from North Carolina and were at Dayton Ohio for the air show this weekend. They needed to get some training in so they came over to Randolph County and flew in and out for about 3 hours.

The fog this morning definitely slowed things down and caused a lot of pilots to stay home. But what an experience it was to have this old war bird come in to be on display. The flyover when they arrived was just an awesome thing to see and hear. For the ones who missed this you really missed an amazing experience. Now it’s time to plan for next year and see what we can come up with. Served around 300 breakfasts last I heard and gave over 50 planes rides. Thanks to our pilots Mitch Snyder, Steve Louridge and Eric Livingston for the long day of giving plane rides. Believe it or not, it’s not as easy as these guys make it look.

The fog and low ceiling this morning kind of delayed things. But the pilots have called and said they are still coming just gonna be later then planned. Looking closer to a 9:00 arrival

The weather is looking great for our fly-in this Saturday JUNE 7th. And we just received confirmation this Big Beautiful B-25 will be arriving between 8:00 and 8:30. She will be parked here until around noon, giving tours of the inside and souvenirs for sale. Come out have breakfast, take a plane ride with one of our local pilots and check out a legendary airplane. Breakfast starts at 6:00am and will continue until it’s sold out.

We are glad that people like Brady are able to use the services of the airport. Makes his commute to different race tracks across the country a whole lot easier and gives him just a little more time at home with his family. Glad that our runway doesn’t look narrow and short.

Thanks to Dennis Fair for the ride to Belleville this weekend. Every extra day at home is nice this time of year. Practice tonight and race the Crown car tomorrow.

PS The runway at the Belleville International Airport looks really narrow and really short when the wind is blowing 40 MPH, but the pilot did a great job.

We are going to try this again this year. Saturday June 7th at the 74th Annual fly-in we have scheduled for “Champaign Gal” a 1944 B-25 to fly in and be on display. With a plane of this era it takes a lot to keep them airworthy, last year they lost an engine and wasn’t able to come as planned. Hoping that it all works out this year for them to come in so everyone can come check out a piece of American Aviation history.

For the pilots who fly in, take this opportunity to purchase fuel at cost as well as the first 100 pilots get a FREE breakfast.

This isn’t just for pilots either. Bring your kids, grandkids, significant other or come by yourself, have breakfast, take a plane ride or just sit and watch airplanes come and go.

Airplanes ran for 4 solid hours taking passengers up to see the Christmas lights. It was a beautiful night for a flight.
