How cool is this idea? You can get that crazy fitted sheet folded and have it all together when you need to change those beds. Just give you some more time to do the fun things in life!!

What a great idea! What do you think? ~ptfb team

Went to a great first meeting of a BNI chapter here at one of my favorite restaurants. Chantelle was kind enough to join me. I ran into a few familiar faces which was so nice to see. Networking, such a good idea!

Hi there, I just noticed that Michael's is having up to 80% off their storage things for Friday and Saturday the 10th (today) and the 11th. It might be just the catalyst for cleaning up the closet, organizing the laundry or your jewelry. Or another problem area, like the incoming mail or where to keep bills to be paid. No time like the present!

PLEASE call me before this situation happens! At least think of the public servants you may injure not to mention this kind of publicity to live down.

(12-20) 09:05 PST Passaic, N.J. (AP) -- A fire in the home of a New Jersey hoarder has killed 20 cats and injured 11 firefighters, most of them from throwing piles of heavy debris. Passaic Fire Chief Patrick Trentacost...

Hot time at the senior center-Leland, that is!

I had a chance to stop by the Leland Senior Center, 1490 Village Road, the other day. Being my first time and a few days before Thanksgiving, I didn’t know what to expect. I was greeted by several hellos as I came through the door, which was nice. There were people playing pool, others playing cards. Some were visiting and having coffee or watching TV. There was a library of sorts and things were getting ready for lunch, which is served daily. There were smiles abound also very nice. I met Shirley Harrison, the center’s assistant manager. She kindly showed me around and told me about the center. Their reference table consolidating all the local services geared towards seniors impressed me; there is more and more help for the growing needs. It is nice to be added as a resource! Shirley gave me a copy of the Center’s newsletter that shows why it is so popular. They had special things happening in November, a band coming to play, a reminder to get ready for an impending talent show and ongoing balance class, who couldn’t use that? There also was a reminder about open enrollment for Medicare Part D ending on December 7, 2011 so keep that date in mind. The Center’s daily calendar was full of fun stuff to do and the list of drop in activities long so if you are in Brunswick county and 60+, go and check it out. The other thing you need to know about is the website: www.brunswickseniorresources.org. There are a number of good services from help with food to help at home to getting around and much more. The staff of BSRI, what they do and contact information is also provided. Also links to other good senior information websites and maybe most importantly the lunch menu served at the 7 senior centers in Brunswick County, good information! The centers are all listed on the website. As I was leaving the Center, everyone except the card players were up and doing ankle circles. In defense of the card players, I am sure it was a fierce hand, not to be disturbed! They were up to 17 when I left. I will be back, hoping they will let me in again….

Deliberate acts of kindness are good too!

Tis the season for shopping. Remember today is local small business Saturday so please shop locally, maybe even after today. But if you do online shop and have things shipped, save any Styrofoam packing peanuts that are used to cushion your items. You can bring them to an independent packing store, another way to support a local small business. They purchase the same peanuts to use in their operation so they truly appreciate the donation. The peanuts are recycled and the business saves a bit on their bottom line. Since Styrofoam is forever, they can be used again and again. They may take bubble wrap as well. Save some for yourself if you are shipping presents or disguising a gift through clever wrapping. Keep this advice in mind for wedding presents as well.

Heloise still rules! Remember her and her helpful hints? I always was trying the things she said would work. My favorite was the freezing the candle holder to remove the wax that had melted into the holder and made life difficult and messy. Just freeze the candleholder and the wax will pop out or at least be manageable. With Thanksgiving approaching, the last thing you want to be doing is scraping candleholders at midnight or even worse, just before the guests arrive. Put them in the freezer, hopefully overnight and it will be a breeze. I know not everyone is Martha Stewart but with a bit of help from Heloise and Right Moves with Julie, you will be fine. I know you have better things to do! Enjoy Thanksgiving with your family and friends. I am very thankful for you and so are they! Have awonderful holiday!

Really helpful tip:

Who, what, where, when:
This is a concept RMWJ uses a lot; it’s good information to have on most things you own. It is very important for a number of reasons. It also might be finite in that if the only one who knows goes, so the does the info so get the information from the people that have it now. A friend has a sleigh bed that belonged to both sets of her great grandparents. It is very cool that her family knows the history of that bed. They have practiced who, what, where when and sometimes why for generations! All you have to do is ask and write it down and then share it with family members. Some of the reasons it’s important are it perpetuates family history and lore, the information helps getting an accurate appraisal, giving good replacement cost and value of item and you know what it is you have specifically. Get in the habit!

Really helpful tip:

One in so one out:
What did she say?? I mean it, remember I am here to try to get you organized. This tip is something that will really help you but it takes discipline. Every time you bring a new shirt, dish, towel into the house, you must get rid of a shirt, dish, towel. You get it, it’s simple, it’s going to work and it’s so very difficult in the beginning. But it will keep the amount of things you have at a near constant, keeping you in control.

Advanced level: Start a word document and keep an inventory. There are websites where you can find a value for that shirt, dish, towel so you can calculate your donation. You have a neat and tidy list complete with dates and donation amount for tax time. You will be so proud of your self because you saved time, giving back time to do whatever else you find fun, you kept a system going and you showed yourself that you can save time by being organized. Worth it!
