In the 1960's, businesses in Vermont had a dilemma: there was no way to get essential products shipped to Vermont in a timely manner. Since airfreight services were not available in the area, Vermont businesses were forced to cope with lengthy delays on time critical shipments. In the late 1960's, the Burlington International Airport began to grow and Fred Spencer recognized an opportunity. In 1968, he pioneered a dependable partnership with airlines and airfreight forwarders located at the growing airport. With a zealous dedication to friendly customer support and flawless service, the Spencer family brought to life Allied Air Freight. With its base at the Burlington International Airport, Allied provided same day airfreight and next day LTL service throughout the state. By the early 1970's, the business expanded by acquiring William R. Babineau Trucking and Medlar's Express. Babineau was an over the road hauler specializing in running full loads of paper products from Northern Vermont to New Jersey. Medlar's was a Burlington based trucking company specializing in local LTL service. With the local pick up and delivery of Medlar's combined with Babineau's over the road abilities and Allied's airfreight partnerships, Fred was able to offer a complete package of services to meet the needs of the rapidly growing businesses in Vermont and the Champlain Valley region of upstate New York. Allied Air Freight continued to grow. In addition to airfreight Fred began to offer cartage service to some of the major LTL trucking companies throughout the country. Never losing his dedication to exceeding his customer's expectations, Allied's service area grew to include all of northern New England and then into southern New England. By 1990, the majority of Allied's business had shifted from air freight to ground freight, so Fred decided to change the name to Land Air Express of New England. Land Air Express had begun to offer dependable ground freight transportation with an airfreight service level. With an unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction and unparalleled service, Land Air Express continued to prosper. LandAir is uniquely positioned to provide you with the most comprehensive delivery services to local markets. In addition to our Direct Next Day service area of New England and Upstate New York LandAir also provides seamless dependable service to other major markets including the Southeast, Mid-West and Canada.
