Awe! yay!! 😃 GREAT NEWS to share - this isn’t something we see every day… but the story is: Back on Mother’s Day, a pilot landing 🛬 at our airport reported seeing two Eagles 🦅 🦅 fighting and plummeting to the ground near the approach end of Runway 13. Our ⛽️ Lineman, Hagood, called the County Wildlife hotline and they sent out an expert to find and hopefully rescue the eagle that hadn’t been able to fly away. 🚨 We’ve just learned the Eagle has made a complete recovery and is cleared for release. The release will be at York River State Park on the 15th and is open to the public. Bravo Wildlife Center of Virginia !!
We have great news! Bald Eagle #26-1314 is ready to return to the wild, and you can join us for the release!
This eagle was brought to us by Eastern Virginia Wildlife Rescue on May 11 after being injured during a fight with another eagle in Williamsburg, Virginia. A physical exam revealed multiple puncture wounds on the bird's legs, and a subsequent blood test showed that she also had lead poisoning.
Our veterinary team performed surgery to repair the wounds and administered chelation therapy to remove the lead. The eagle made a full recovery and was officially cleared for release on June 8!
The release is free and open to the public, and will take place on Monday, June 15, at 1:00 p.m. at York River State Park. If you'd like to attend, let us know by RSVP'ing using the link in the comments.
We hope to see you at the release!
