Have you noticed additional construction at Jabara lately? This is our new Snow Removal Equipment Storage building, and it should be completed this April. The $3.8 million construction project, funded with FAA BIL and Airport Revenues, replaces facilities for equipment and snow control materials that have exceeded their useful life. This new facility provides direct airfield access for equipment and operators, minimizing the previously necessary operation on public roadways to access the airfield, thereby increasing safety and efficiency for everyone.

Join the Wichita Public Library to celebrate the many achievements of notable Black Aviators from Kansas, as part of the “Celebrating Wichita’s Black History” series. It’s common knowledge that Wichita is known as the Air Capital of the World, but that history is a lot less interesting without the achievements of Black Aviators. Staff from the Kansas Aviation Museum will share many of the achievements and talk about The Rip Gooch Black Aviators Exhibit, one of the newest permanent exhibits at the museum.

The airfields at ICT and AAO opened at roughly 7 am today. Crews spent all day Saturday keeping one runway, taxiways, and ramp open until about 6 pm when we closed to get some rest. They went back out at night and we opened by 7 am. Pictures of the event are in our Facebook album.

A new flight school, Planes over Plains LLC, has located at Jabara Airport as a subtenant of Midwest Corporate Aviation (MCA). The school specializes in primary aircraft instruction with an emphasis on simply back to the basics.

The school has a single Cessna 150 that it offers for primary flight training and flight reviews. Ground training will take place in a dedicated classroom at MCA.

Chris Boettcher, owner and flight instructor, has been a corporate pilot based out of MCA for almost 30 years. He earned his instructor certificate in 1987 and has provided over 3,000 hours of flight training. Boettcher has not instructed much in the last 20 years, but wanted to get back into the business and give back to aviation. Flight instructing is something that he has always enjoyed.

Boettcher has a full time corporate flying job, so for the time being Planes over Plains is not a full time flight school. However, expansion is planned, as they hope to eventually add additional airplanes and instruction capacity.
