Adventures of the EZ&RA

Suddenly a shot rang out and a bullet flew by Ezra's head.

"Run," Ezra exclaimed!

We all ran for cover behind a large pickup truck as the shots continued.

"What the heck is going on here," I queried?

"I don't know, but it's coming from that office tower over there," Wilder responded.

He pointed to an office building that I recognized as the international headquarters of the EZ&RA Railroad. Sure enough, another shot filled the air amd the three of us immediatly trained our eyes on the head of a man, firing a rifle from the parapet of the building.

"But why is he firing at us," Ezra questioned?

Adventures of the EZ&RA

A man approached us sternly.

"What are you people doing here? I'm going to have to ask you to leave!

"Uh...we're not sure how we got here. I built this railroad for my grandsons here, and we were just standing there looking at it, when a bright light appeared and we were here, in the middle of the...whatever this is...wherever this is."

"You built this railroad did ya? That's rich. This railroad was built by the two brothers, Ezra and Wilder. It was a thriving business and everyone loved them. They treated everyone fairly and with respect. But five years ago an evil menace appeared here, pretty much like the three of you just did, and he convinced some of the people that we were being taken advantage of by the brothers. He was able to convince the board that they were stealing money from the company, so they ousted them and installed him as head of the railroad. But it's been horrible. He fired half the workers, so now we all have to pull longer shifts. But he doesn't pay us any extra. Half the time he doesn't pay us at all."

"Whats his name?"

"Reginald Manning."

"Are you serious?"

Adventures of the EZ&RA

We were just standing there, the three of us, Ezra by my side and little Wilder in my arms. Not long back, I had installed a small shadow box containing the ticket and bell from our ride on the Polar Express down in Oklahoma City. That story is filled with wonder and magic - apparently more than anyone understands - for as we stood there, a flash of light emerged from the little shadow box and enveloped us, and suddenly, inexplicably, we were enveloped by that light and transported through time and space to another realm or plane and now here we stood in the middle of the EZ&RA Railroad, Ezra, Wilder, and I.

It all started as a whimsical, fun endeavor to share a meaningful experience with our first born grandson. Who could know that this would happen. And is this how the universe really works? What we create in this realm becomes reality in another plane of existence? Apparently so because here we are, Ezra, Wilder and I, standing in the middle of my creation, the EZ&RA Railroad, literally, a whole world built with toys, but functional in a way that defies logic. And while I'm the same age, Wilder and Ezra are both handsome young men, eager to explore this new world. How did we get here? What do we do now?

Ezra the Magnificent, railroad tycoon and owner of the EZ&RA Railroad, sent me on an excursion to visit our friends at Sundowner Train Shop in Mulvane, KS. Dan's a nice guy and they have a huge HO layout the kids will love! Also stopped by the history museum while in town. Another fun destination. Thanks Ezra!

Ezra the Magnificent, railroad tycoon and owner of the EZ&RA Railroad, is in route to the office this morning and makes this public announcement. Work is complete on the EZRail Transfer Station with EZ&RA maintenance facilities below. Service at the station includes local EZRail service, regional passenger service, as well as Amtrack, Greyhound and local bus services. We'll see you at the Station!
