Two charters in one day! Unusual for Third Swan. Hear is last nights sunset beneath an absolutely clear sky so not much afterglow. Still good to watch.

What a sunset last night! We headed out for a sunset cruise and I thought it unlikely we would see the sun at all. But once on Lake Michigan there was a slight opening through the clouds right on the horizon. When the sun slid down into it...WOW. See the photos attached.

Ahah, I just love fall sunsets. I don't know why but the colors are more vibrant than at other times of the year.

We had our first sunset cruise of this year this evening. Chasing the sun out the White Lake Channel to Lake Michigan and the sun is now south of the channel. Amazing how much the sun moves north in spring and south in fall!

The photos talk for themselves. I'll just sit back, be quiet and enjoy the simple beauty that nature has given us!

Well, the summer is officially over. Sure doesn't feel like it with the unusually hot temps we have had these few days! And the boating is certainly not over!

We had our first Fall charter today, and it was really cool! A true international day with students from the USA, Spain, Japan, Taiwan and Indonesia. All are exchange students (except for the local USA student) sponsored by the Montague/Whitehall Rotary and chaperoned by Susie Rehrer. What a great group of kids!

Hotter than blazes as we left the dock, but a breeze over the deck once underway helped a lot. Then as we came out onto Lake Michigan the temperature dropped to something very nice. We anchored Third Swan and the kids all jumped into the cool Lake Michigan water and had a great time, followed by pizza and soft drinks on the foredeck while they dried off.

Lots of boats were anchored along the shoreline taking advantage of nature's air conditioning. All too soon we had to head back in to the dock and the heat.

But as bad as th heat is right now here in Michigan, we've no hurricanes and no earthquakes to worry about. We are vey lucky to live here.

Fall sunsets are the best of all year, and we will be running the boat until late October. Still time for that Lake Michigan Sunset Cruise!

Well, this has been a good week so far. On Sunday we had a proposal on board. Matt booked his family aboard and his girlfriend Roberta. The sea state on Lake Michigan was calm enough that he and Roberta could slow dance on the foredeck. Fun to watch as the Third Swan was moving around a bit so there were a few staggered steps. When the song ended ,Matt went down on one knee and proposed! She said "Yes!" As the family shared a celebratory toast we headed back to White Lake to stay ahead of an approaching storm.

Congratulations to Matt and Roberta!

On Tuesday Cathy and I had our friend Marianne and her son Saeben out for an afternoon. Sabeen is crazy about boats so he got to visit the engine room for the pre engine start checks and was all over Third Swan from stem to stern. Lake Michigan was rolly with a leftover swell from the day before so we didn't stay out there very long but it was a pleasant afternoon.

Tonight Capt. Ron heads down to the Muskegon Yacht Club for the Wensday evening race aboard Wings, a 30 ft. Racing sailboat. This is a weekly thing for me to get my sailing fix in. Although I own a powerboat, I am still a sailor at heart.

Just returned from an afternoon charter with a local Whitehall couple, Jack and Linda. They were given a gift certificate and picked a day with fantastic weather. Warm, nice breeze on White Lake, calm water on Lake Michigan!

On the way back in we passed by a lakefront home where a man was mowing back and forth across a large, steep lawn and the thought occurred "I'm glad I am not him!

I love my job! How many people get to say that. Am I a lucky guy or what!

Third Swan was out for another sunset cruise last evening. Rob and Sandy called at the last minute hoping for a cruise, so Capt. Ron and Cathy did a quick scramble to get ready. Mostly getting rid of the spiders that seem to be everywhere with this heat and humidity.

As we approached Lake Michigan we could feel the temperature cool off. Aaah! Out on the big Lake there was a gentle swell from the South, and a small wind chop from the North West, not uncomfortable but noticeable.

The sun sun set into an oncoming cloud bank, but still lots of color and very nice, with a peak at the sun as it crossed the horizon. Rob took lots and lots of pictures!

Back on White Lake the breeze had dropped and it felt as though Third Swan was not moving at all, but of course we were and the cruise ended all too soon.

Third Swan Charters had their 3rd charter for the season, an afternoon charter this time. Six guests, all one family, a couple of them grew up here and are seeing the lake for the first time in a lot of years. Lots of changes have occured. Others live in the area and are simply glad to be out on a boat

White Lake had more boat traffic than I have seen in a long time, Capt. Ron had to keep on his toes! Lake Michigan was a little choppy, not bad, but coming back into the channel was rough and full of other boats, most of whom knew what they were doing. All in all, a fun way to spend a summer afternoon.

Third Swan had her second sunset charter of the season on July 2nd with Russ & Deb and Shann & Jennifer aboard. Wonderful conversations as we cruised along the White Lake shore on the way to Lake Michigan. Then slightly choppy water on the big lake.
We headed off shore chasing the sun as it set with a line of cloud crossing it's downward path. An unusual setting as the sun showed both above and below the thin cloud line, and then just hung on the horizon like a bright neon bar lying on the water. Very cool!

What does Capt. Ron do when not cruising on a boat? Right now, I am getting the backyard of the White Swan Inn ready for our anual hosting of Jazz at the Swan. This is a benefit event to help support the Arts Council of White Lake music programs, specifically the White Lake Chamber Music Festival in August. Each year a jazz combo performs in our backyard and this year we are featuring the Tom Hagen Trio from Grand Rapids. Capt. Ron gets to turn the backyard into a magical fairyland with our beautiful gardens, lights all around, and our parking area becomes a dance floor.
The event takes place Saturday July 15 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $15.00 and available from the White Swan Inn (303 S. Mears Ave., Whitehall, 231-894-5169) or the Book Nook & Java shop (8744 Ferry St. Montague, 231-894-5333). Wine and cheese will be provided. Bring your own chair or use one of about 40 available here. It's always a fun event!

Our first charter of the 2017 season took place last evening (06-24-2017) and it was a good one. Mary and Larry joined us as we went out on a somewhat choppy Lake Michigan outside White Lake. The first thing we saw as we headed out the channel was a passing freighter. Unusual to see them this close to shore as they pass White Lake. Then as the sun set the freighter was right in line with and passed through the setting sun. Way cool! Lots of clouds to show off the color in the sky. As usual, everyone enjoyed the evening.
