Tip of the Week - Safety Around Semis

Pass quickly, and stay out of blind spots, also called No-Zones! Semis have large blind spots in all directions - if you cannot see the driver, they cannot see you.

When behind a tractor trailer, leave plenty of room between you and the truck. It’s best to keep at least a four-second following distance in case of a sudden stop.

Today's spotlight is John Armstrong!

John has been driving for 14 years, he got into trucking because of his Grandpa Beaver. He has been married for 14 years and has 3 beautiful kids, he loves spending time with his family going to the movies and doing fun activities together. John loves working for SME because we are all on a first name basis and everyone is so nice and polite!

Today's spotlight is Duke Waggoner!

Duke has been driving for 22 years, 19 in re**er and 3 in flatbed. Despite having seen so many places, he can't choose a favorite - some of his top choices are Chesapeake Bay Bridge, New York City, the Caves in Independence MO, Talladega Speedway, and driving through Omaha NE during the College World Series. One time, he took a wrong turn and accidentally ended up in Tijuana, Mexico!

Duke has a 24 year old step son, and a 14 year old son. He loves driving for SME because he feels our drivers are treated well, and every load has its own set of challenges.

Thank you for your years of dedication and hard work, Duke!

SME Logistics opened its doors in the fall of 2018 with 4 flatbed trucks and has grown to a fleet of 18 trucks to meet the shipping needs of CoreBrace, SME Steel Contractors, and all our many outside customers.

In 2022, SME Logistics delivered 3,208 loads, hauled 136,793,600 lbs of freight, and drove 1,723,454 miles. We also brokered 631 loads to outside carriers.

So far this year, our exceptional team has delivered 594 loads, hauled 24,359,753 lbs of freight and we have driven 345,941 miles. We have also brokered 118 loads to outside carriers. We anticipate surpassing all of last year's operating metrics by the end of the 2023!

We look forward to the opportunity to continue contributing to the success of SME Industries throughout the remainder of 2023, into 2024, and beyond.
