This wet weather is just crushing us. It seems to rain almost every day, in one place or another. The two houses that we are doing basements under right now have each become a nightmare. We have had a deal with cave-ins or the prevention of them continuously.
Anytime you do excavation other than very shallow, you have to be concerned about cave-ins. Normally, we are able to shelf the banks back, so the not a real big problem. Neither of these jobs has enough space around the houses to allow us to make our excavations wider.
The result is that my guys are getting lots of overtime. Many sheets of three-quarter-inch plywood and pipe have been purchased. Extra pieces of equipment have been rented. Additional sump pumps have been purchased. In other words, there has been a significant boost to our area's economy!!!
Of course, all of this was originally figured in the jobs, so it's no big deal! No, wait, that's completely a lie! The cash reserve that I had my eye on to count as income and use for some long-overdue remodeling projects around the house is now being used up to keep these two jobs going. Being in business for oneself can be such a joy!
