This April, as part of our America250 celebration, we’re staying on track with "Ohio Moves" by exploring our rich railroad heritage!

For nearly a century, the Nickel Plate Railroad served as a vital artery for our county, fueling local industry and connecting us to the nation from 1881 to 1964.

The journey continued in 1925 with the opening of the New York Central Railroad Station in Elyria, a stunning landmark that evolved from a bustling train depot into today’s modern Transportation Center.

Whether by rail or bus, Lorain County has always been a focal point for travelers on the move! America 250-Ohio

It’s been a while since we’ve posted, but looking back here’s one of my favorite photos from 2025. It takes a whole lot of behind the scenes effort to make these sort of events possible. This work is accomplished by individuals who come together for the purpose of breathing new life into an “abandoned” railroad. It is a tremendous undertaking to try and acquire and rehabilitate an entire railroad. There is always more we’d like to accomplish. We always wish we had a little more money, a little more time, or a few more volunteers. We are grateful to all of you who support us; those who ride the trains, those who sacrifice weekends with their families, and those members who year after year send in their membership dues as a sign of support for this project. Thank you all so much for helping us to end the year off strong! We are appreciative of every patron, volunteer, member and donor who helps to keep the dream alive. This ongoing endeavor of resurrecting an abandoned railroad and using it to showcase a mode of transportation that was so important to the development of our country. We hope you had a good time and are able to enjoy this holiday season with your loved ones.
