Winter weather is possible Wednesday night into Christmas Eve as a storm system moves through the middle of the country, with rain changing to snow expected for central Illinois and the surrounding region. Temperatures will turn much colder for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The storm track is still uncertain, and therefore much uncertainty remains in exact timing as well as rain and snow amounts. Keep an eye on the forecast. Consider altering travel plans based on later forecasts.

Heat and humidity will increase this weekend, creating uncomfortable conditions for anyone who must spend extended periods of time outdoors. Peak heat index readings today will reach between 95 and 101F and tomorrow between 99 and 104F. Remember your heat safety precautions: take frequent breaks in air conditioned spaces, drink plenty of fluids, wear light colored clothing.

[5:00 a.m., Sat April 25]: Wet, chilly, blustery Saturday. For most of the area, that will be the rule.

The most persistent rain today is expected to be centered along the Illinois River Valley region. Some of this rain will likely be occasionally heavy, and totals in excess of two inches (possibly even three) by early evening are likely into much of LaSalle and Livingston Counties where a Flood Watch is in effect. Remember if encountering a flooded roadway, turn around don't drown.

Rain will end from north to south across the area this evening.
